but do make sure he is getting some watered down pedialyte. just not in grape flavour (grapes are toxic). When you start to introduce food again i'd go with white rice and boiled chicken breast- it is very bland and should be easy on his tummy- poor little guy. | |

| If you go to Pet Holistic Health Supplies | Homeopathic Pet Medicine | Holistic Vets and Veterinarians | All Natural Holistic Treatments you can read about Plantaeris and the comments left by users. The time frame for effectiveness ranged from one hour to two weeks. I was hoping for the one hour time frame, but that didn't happen. I am encouraged though that he hasn't had any diarrhea for a couple of hours (at least). I go out with him, day and night (at night with a flashlight) so I can monitor his bm's. I will certainly try to find a holistic vet in this area.......I would trust them more I believe. At least their first indication isn't to pump medications into a dog. I guess that probably also comes from working for a doctor for a long time and seeing it happen, way too much. I much prefer the holistic way. Thank you again so much for you input..... |

| I just went and looked at the Yogurt (my husband bought it).....and darn if it isn't the Lite stuff. I know about the chicken and rice and have it already ready for him when the time comes (which I thought would be sooner than this)....and will get Pedilyte tomorrow......not grape. Thank you for your suggestions.....I am embracing every one of them. And the reason I was giving yogurt was for the good bacteria. I have only given him one antibiotic pill so far......so a lot of damage to bacteria hasn't yet been done........and I will get the right yogurt tomorrow too. Your advice and words of wisdom are helping me so much.....and also my peace of mind.....which was pretty much shattered. Thank you. |

| Lola........The vet I went to ran a pretty thorough blood test....I saw the results and there were many things listed. Also Mickey was hydrated under the skin as yours was......and also got special dog food....oh yeah, and the shots.....exactly as you stated you got......however, nothing much changed for me as it did you. Mickey weighs in at 23 lbs....he's very large for a Yorkie......he's tall. I'm sure he may have dropped a pound, but because he is a bit overweight, I don't think it is hurting him. If only I can get through the entire night tonight without him vomiting or having diarrhea, I'll feel like I'm on the correct course of treatment. Thank you again for all the input.......I welcome every single word. |

| Well, yogurt is actually considered the good dairy product even with diarrhea. I think if you are using a good pure yogurt like Dannon Natural - that is good. I would just avoid too much of it though. The pumpkin will work likely faster to stop the diarrhea. Bananas can be good too. But I think pumpkin works fastest. I try to keep a can of pumpkin in my cupboard at all times - it's pretty cheap even if you don't use but a few spoonfuls. I also try to keep the boxed-easy pour Swanson's broth on hand.

| I have been using Pepto Bismol for a couple of days now.....got the dosing instructions from....somewhere......for dogs......he tolerates it well and it does seem to have very positive effects on him.....however, it hasn't caused the diarrhea to stop......slow down, yes, stop, no. Oh, and he hates it......but then, I don't blame him a bit. I think this is the first time I've even smiled in 3 days.....I thank all of you for being here......what a true blessing you all are. Thank you. |

| ah lite- good think you looked. When you go tomorrow- see if you can find Stoneyfields Farm- it's organic and just REALLY great stuff- get "plain" no matter what brand you get. In the mean time can you try giving him some cheerios? see if he can keep those down- they are bland and easy to digest. Good thing he is a big boy you at least have that piece of mind- had he been 3-4lbs things would have been MUCH more life or death- i hope he is just having a few off days and will be ont he med tonight/ tomorrow oh and i forgot WELCOME to Yorkie Talk! |

| I was thinking little yorkie when I posted a spoonful or so - but seeing he was what folks on YT refer to lovingly as a teapot -- I would up the amt. of pumpkin -- not exactly sure how much you should give. I usually give my 4 1/2 lb Bubba a tablespoon or so.

| Yes, I agree with Marci - Stoneyfields Farm- it's organic and just REALLY great stuff- get "plain" -- if you can't get that get the Dannon Naturals - they are both in a big container usually. Regular bananas - not dried ones. Yep, send the hubby now for pumpkin - it will start working right away. Maybe since he hasn't had any loose stools for awhile, the herb formula might b helping him already

| Marcerella.......Not waiting until tomorrow.......husband is on his way to the store as I type......with a list in hand (very detailed). I wish I had found this site a couple of days ago, but feel lucky I've found it now. Yes, I realize that if he was a tiny little Yorkie this would be much more serious than it is......I'm fortunate he has the body weight to be able to withstand this right now. It's been a solid 3 hours at least since he last had diarrhea.....I'm so hoping it's stopping and he'll be on the road to recovery soon. Thank you so much.....I thank each and every one of you for your wonderful, informative input. |
