| ![]() Ok, I am in tears over here thinking that you might return him. PLEASE DON'T According to that Cali puppy lemon law, you'll get $ back, but you have to notify the breeder within 5 days. BUT, you haven't even gotten any sort of test results back yet. Please call your Vet (general Vet) and schedule a Bile Acid Test. This test cost about $70 to $80. You will need to fast him for 12 hours, drop him off at the Vet for a 1/2 day. They draw blood, feed him a fatty food and then after 2 hours draw blood again. You'll get the results in a day or two. But this will show how the liver is functioning. If the #s are high they will lean towards MVD or a Liver Shunt. But at that point you have those results and if they are high, you will need it on your Vet's paper, and you will need to serve this breeder with them, b/c according to the law, you are entitled to $ back from her towards the Vet bills. MVD or Liver Shunt is NOT a death sentence. BUT first you need to find out IF he really has any liver issues at all. MVD can be controlled very easily but a special diet and supplements. A liver shunt (if operable) can be fixed, and he will live a very healthy life. Please try to do what you can for him, b/c if you return him, I fear for his life ![]() |

| ![]() Yes, I know it is very scarey and it can get pricey, but please try to do what you can for him, b/c honestly you are probably the ONLY one that will. Read up about the Lemon Law and once you get the Bile Acid Test results back, you get them to her ASAP along with the Lemon Law information. You might have to send them certified mail to have proof that she received them. Again, liver issues are not the end of the world, ok? I have 2 and so far I have Bile Acid tested them both 3x each. My girl has higher #s and we did other blood work (approx. $150) for them to see if 'other' things were off that would conclude liver issues. We also did an ultra sound ($350) - I don't really recommend that though, b/c even though her liver was normal shape and normal size and NO shunt was seen, it doesn't mean there is not a shunt. Your baby is still young, so I am assuming he hasn't been neutered yet. So that means, if his Bile Acid Tests are high, you can speak with your Vet about taking a Liver Biopsy at the same time they do his neuter, which would also be less expensive. Anyway, I am just trying to help you to help him ![]() BUT - No matter what - Go after his breeder for $ - It's the LAW!!! And PLEASE DON'T GIVE HIM BACK ![]() I will be here for you if you have any questions or need help understanding anything, ok? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() I don't want to downplay how serious his problem could be, but I wanted to give you a little hope that it could really be nothing serious. My mom's dog, Jake, has had a "shakey" head since she got him. He doesn't do it all the time, but if he looks up suddenly or hears something unusual or sometimes for no reason at all his head sort of bobbles. It's not a fierce shake or anything, but more like his head takes a little time to balance. My great grandmother had parkinson's disease and his head bobble reminds me of the way her head would shake. It's sort of like he's very faintly shaking his head "no". He tested out normal for everything and is now 7 years old and healthy as ever. We just call it his little quirk. It is my hope that your puppy will turn out fine. I know there is usually a reason for ever symptom, but this one doesn't effect Jake at all and he has had no trouble out of it in 7 years. |

| ![]() A neurologist already? I'm surprised. You don't need to see a neurologicst unless his liver is fine... Yes, have your vet do a bile acid test (and they should've thought of that a loooong time ago). Then if that comes back okay, go to the neurologist. If the levels are elevated it could be shunt or MVD. These are not death sentences. If the numbers are in one range and shunt is suspected. If they are in another MVD is suspected. You can also do a Protein C test to help diagnose which one it is. After this testing does get expensive, but if it turns out to be MVD your dog will do on a low protein diet and be supplement forever. If it is a shunt outside the liver surgery has to be attempted. This is about $1300 at University of Tennessee. They are the best. It is being done all over though and has about an 85% success rate. And I haven't had a chance to read all the responses but please listen to TLC. She has been through it with this.

| ![]() If it is liver problems, it is not a death sentence. TLC is completely right...Believe me, my yorkie was diagnosed before he was even one years old, and he was much worse off than yours...He had seizures and bladder stones and all kinds of things...He was given a very grim prognosis, but he will be 4 yrs old in April now, and thanks to his diet and supplements and lactulose, he is doing great and completely seizure-free...

| ![]() Well the Vet just called me and said it would cost $80 to do the Bile and he would also like to do a liver panel, I told him what was going on with the breeder and he gave me a dicount on the liver panel from $75 to $45 he strongly recommend I get them both done at the same time so he can better determine if it is the liver? Anyone have any feed back? I said that would be fine. |

I agree that the more blood tests done will help to determine what direction to go in. The Bile Acid Test is great, but other things can be done too to see how and if the liver is effected. I think you are on a GREAT PATH NOW! Keep us posted ![]() | |
