A neurologist already? I'm surprised. You don't need to see a neurologicst unless his liver is fine... Yes, have your vet do a bile acid test (and they should've thought of that a loooong time ago). Then if that comes back okay, go to the neurologist. If the levels are elevated it could be shunt or MVD. These are not death sentences. If the numbers are in one range and shunt is suspected. If they are in another MVD is suspected. You can also do a Protein C test to help diagnose which one it is. After this testing does get expensive, but if it turns out to be MVD your dog will do on a low protein diet and be supplement forever. If it is a shunt outside the liver surgery has to be attempted. This is about $1300 at University of Tennessee. They are the best. It is being done all over though and has about an 85% success rate.
And I haven't had a chance to read all the responses but please listen to TLC. She has been through it with this.
