Well, it is 9:30 and he is still very lathargic, he ate at 1:30 this afternoon, and drank water ok, but as for now he refused anymore food. He finally pooped a small bit early this afternoon and again about 9:00, again just a small bit, about the size of a quarter. He is urinating some. The weakness scares me, he follows me around the yard, slowly, but with the excersize did result in a little poop. I noticed his stomach is hard and it seems uncomfortable for him when i try to rum his tummy. I guess it takes a day or two for the antibiotics to kick in and make him feel better. The vet said for me to call her early in the am to see how he is doing, if not doing much better she may have to hospitalize him to get more fluids in. She might then go ahead a give him the test for pancreatitis. He does not believe he has it as he only vomited those 4 times within an hour and it never happened again. Also no diarhea. So I will let you all know more as the days progress... Lana

check with vet about using famotidine (pepcid) this controls the stomach acids in their tummy - could be inflammatory bowel disease as bloating is part of it - sometimes if they eat too much kibble it bloats the stomach- I do the famo 30 minutes before eating 2 times a day when he has tummy probs - is there potato in diet? dexter doing good on purina ha and he had tummy problems like he could not get comfortable and belly distended and then vomitting as the small intestines could not digest the food - less vomitting than pancreatitis - no real test for ibd but a biopsy with a scope and i opted against it and doing ok with food

check with vet but hamburger is harsh on tummy - internal medicine doctor had me feed dexter lean ground turkey and rice as easier on tummy - also simplecef is an antibiotic that is less harsh on tummy - sounds like dexter when he has a bout with ibd and he had problems even with the turkey so it might be the meat

if he does not want to eat it is ok just restrict food for a day and let his tummy calm down and feed small portions for next few days - as long as he is drinking water it is ok - he may need to give his tummy rest - metoclopramide is another drug i use for nausea that vet gave me famotidine for stomach acid and metoclopramide for anti nausea Sometimes it takes 24 - 48 hours when they have tummy probs but must still drink water or use ice cubes for them to lick

Hi all! Buster was not doing very well this morning. Had trouble waking him up, picked him us and he was just like a limp rag! Got a second opinion. First thing the vet said, it sounds like pancreatitis, newest type blood tests are done here at this vets office showed his pancreas levels were very high, low potasium and all the other indicators show an attach of acute pancreatitis. He is staying overnight on IV fluids and all the good stuff he needs. Dr says he is resting comfortably now. He had such stomach pain it just about killed me! In the morning he will be doing blood tests to check those levels again, and if he is showing signs of improvement and he looks allot more alert he can come home in the afternoon. I thought by all the research I did yesterday that was the conclusion I came up with too. Well, what a learning experience this has been... $126.00 of it!!! That is what the first vet charged for the wrong diagnosis. I will let you know tomorrow what the outcome is. Thanks again everyone. I love this forum, I have learned so much!!! Lana

did they do the cpli test? as amylase and lipase not as accurate? Also, please make sure they do not give you i/d food as hospital said do not feed this food even though most vets recommend for pancreatitis. Let me know what medicine he comes home with? Dexter relapsed a few times and it became severe so be careful. Is there a specialty hospital for severe cases near you where they do 24 hour fluid care with no transportation? If it becomes severe which i hope not then i recommend a plasma transfusion as it saved dexters life. No more treats and lowfat food. Hopefully a mild case of pancreatitis and not severe like dexter. It is extremely painful in the abdomin. Keep me posted as I am very familiar with this so i will help out - hoping the best so glad you went to a different vet who is knows about latest technology.

Hey all! Buster is home. Came home at noon today. He had bacterial Pancreatitis. All levels are back up where they should be. Came home with amoxicilin 100 mg. He sure is glad to be home! Ate about 6:00 tonite and so far is hold it down. Ate a tablespoon of boiled hamburger and rice, when out and peed and came in a had a drink of water. He even barked when someone showed up at the door. What a GREAT sound!!! He is very tired though, this has been quite an ordeal. Dwerteb asked about the cpli test, and the vet did that test. The first one showed that he was really out of whack, As well as his Pan. enzymes. This mornings blood work was great. We are just taking it slow, one day at a time. He seems to be holding everything down. Let's home I dodged the big bullet here. He and Sissy usually eat Canidae for some time now and seem to be doing very well on it. The Vet believes this was caused the the rabbit he and his sister had attached on Saturday morning. This is the second rabbit kill in 2 months! But we have it solved now!! My special Husband now has a rabbit proof potty area they can use. Thanks so much for all you love and support. What a great group of people, I love this site!! Thanks! Lana

Buster is doing much better today. He can't wait to eat, but I can see he is quite dissapointed in the meager meal he gets! LOL... Bowel movement today and peeing like he used to. Vet called today to see how he was. I made the right decision to get a second opinion. I can tell everyone that go with your gut feeling when something is not right. Sure am glad to have my baby back. Bless all of you for your love and concern, you helped me over the rough spots. Love to all, Lana, Buster and Sissy!
