Help Help Help!! Hi everyone. Need help. My Buster was just fine this morning until I gave him a about a tablespoon of corn flakes just for morning breakfast fun. He has had them so many times, no problem right, not til about 45 minutes later, he threw up the corn flakes. He then threw up three more times, the first one (gross) a little corn flakes, but the other three was orange, with some mucus. Now he is very listless, dosn't want to lay down, just stands there looking at me. He looks very depressed! He hasn't peed at all, except very early (before corn flakes) I gave him 2 ml of pepto bismal, didn't do much good. Thought it would settle his tummy. Any ideas??? Help, I am stumped!! Thanks, Lana:confused: |
i honestly dont know, but i will pray your baby feels better soon ,and i am sure someone will have advice soon! |
Poor little Buster. I hope it's just a little upset tummy and nothing serious. Hopefully, someone here at YT will have sone idea of what is going on. Just make sure he gets fluids. |
Awww, poor guy:( Keep fluids in him for sure. You can try feeding him some plain white rice with finely shredded chicken mixed in, that usually helps settle their tummy. Good thoughts headed your way:love:!! |
I agree with Luna....chicken and rice,,,,, |
Treats And Pancreatitis Just curious why the pepto before the corn flakes? Has he always had stomach problems? I am so against any treats or anything other than dog food as my yorkie was fine for 2 years and we did the treat thing and he got pancreatitis of which yorkies are prone too. The first thing vet said did you give treats and we said yes. The vet was like you should not give treats for this reason. We have 3 dogs and dexter was the only one who got it but it was severe and he almost died. Now he has inflammatory bowel disease because of it. These little ones have real sensitive stomachs so if you get it under control be very cautious High protein, high fatty treats can be deadly to these little guys. The worst culprit is pupperonis per the internal medicine doctor and vets. We gave ours the Real Meat treats venison, fish and venison and lamb - high end treats and we think that may have done it. Also potato based foods many dogs cannot tolerate which makes them throw up as dexter cannot eat them and goes into bouts of vomitting. For his tummy we now use pepcid (fammotidine) to calm stomache acids and when real bad metaclopramide to stop the nausea which a vet will instruct on this. Also, we restrict food for the day the vomitting happens and leave water out. If they will not drink water I use ice cubes for him to lick. Hope this helps :( |

My Vet told me a lot of yorkies have allergies to corn. It can upset their tummys. Keep us up to date, would like to know how he's doing. |

Good point!!! I forgot about the corn in corn flakes....DUH that could be it!!!:) |
..also if you gave him milk with his flakes this could have been the problem too. |
Hi everyone, thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I took him to the vet. He has no kidney problems, but he had a slight temp of 102. He was a little dehydrated. The vet put him on baytril and also started him with a shot of the same and a shot to keep him from throwing up. She suggested cooked hamburger and rice. He ate that and as of now, he is keeping it down and is drinking water at a normal rate. I just have to keep and eye on him and make sure he gets the water he needs. She saw nothing to alarming, but he may have picked up something in the yard, we just don't know. It was not the corn flakes and in response to DWERTEN, I gave him the pepto bismal after he threw up, the vet didn't indicate prancreatitis. I don't know those symptoms, would the show up in the blood panel? Anyway, thank you all for you good words. He is sleeping quitely now, I think he needs the rest from this ordeal. I will keep you informed as (hopefully) he recovers. Thanks again!!! Lana |
