| Please help! Please can someone give me some advice? My Walter, who is 9 years old hasn't been able to poop for about 5 days. The first few days, he had gas something terrible. I have been giving him a couple spoonfuls of pumpkin each day since Friday, and still nothing. I noticed a few minutes ago, he was outside and trying to go and it almost looked like his little hiney was pushing out? I would love to rush him to the hospital, but I am currently battling thyroid cancer and can barely cover my meds. I have less than $30 in my bank account until next Saturday. He still plays when I pick up a toy, barks, runs and is very loving. But he does look uncomfortable and unhappy when he isn't interacting with me. Somehow I think, he knows what is going on with me and is just "pretending" to be ok. Please someone give me some advice. If I do have to take him to the hosp, they will make me sign him over in order to treat him. I'm heartbroken and desperate! Last edited by bonthomas; 12-11-2011 at 01:09 PM. | They will make me surrender him on order to help him. There has to be another way than giving up this baby that I have had for 9 years!! =(( |

| If this is a vet that knows the both of you, I'm sure if you let him know your circumstances he will help make payment arrangements for you. He needs to be seen by a vet. It could be as simple as impacted anal glands. It could be something more serious also, but he needs to be seen. Please talk to your vet, explain your situation, and ask for help in payment plans and developing an affordable plan of care. The longer you let this go, the worse the problem can get. Please let us know how you make out.

| I tried to do that yesterday. My vet used to have payment plans. But they said due to so many ppl defaultng on them, they no longer do it. I applied through their office for CareCredit and was denied. I'm afraid I am going to have to give him up. :'( |

| I tried that yesterday. They have stopped doing payment arrangements because too many people were defaulting and not making their payments. Walter has only been sick 3 other times his whole life and I was able to pay for his appts with no problem. I applied for CareCredit through their office yesterday and was denied. I just dont know if there is anything else I can give him or try.... The thought of giving him up just makes me want to stop breathing. I'm heartbroken. But in the end, giving him up may be the only thing I can do. :'( |

| Have you applied for Care Credit or asked the the emergency vet for a payment plan? I'm sorry. There is no answer anybody on YT could or should give. Your pup needs to see a vet right now. Most vets aren't going to even offer an option of signing your pup over because even if they now own the animal, where would they get the money to treat it and who would they rehome it to... Vet hospitals aren't rescues, so that's not something that's done often. The other option is a rescue. It sounds like there are still options available though. I'd get on the CareCredit site right now and try to get an approval. If not, I'd call every ER vet within about 3 hours to see if anybody will take payments. If your regular vet has an ER number, that would probably be best.

| When my pup was sick I contacted the Humane Society to get help for her. Since she'd been seen by a (quack) vet already they would do nothing but I know they will help in times of extreme need. Here, at least. It'd be worth it to call them & let them know what's going on. Good luck & I hope you're both feeling better soon.

| I posted a reply about 45 mins ago, but apparently I had been somehow logged out and it had to go thru the moderator. (just now realized I was logged out). I did apply for Care Credit yesterday and was denied. The vet hosp said that if I surrender him, they will treat him and then will rehome him either thru someone in their office or thru a rescue center (who will most likely pay the costs). I just think it's horrible that no-one can help me with this. When my kids were little, if they had an emergency, I took them to the ER, signed a release and promise to pay and sent the hosp $100 a month until it was paid. Now, Walter (my baby!) is sick and nobody will help me without me giving him up. It's stupid! This is only the 4th time EVER that he has been sick. I was always able to pay for his care up front - as required, and now, after 9 years of being with the same vet, they won't help me. I have called other vets today, and because we would be a new patient, they won't help financially either. I even offered to give my car to them. Does anybody know of something else to help him poop??? I am going to the store in a few minutes to get Karo Syrup and mineral oil. If one doesn't work, I will try the other, I guess. I am also going to attempt to express his anal glands and see if that helps. I am just out of options at this point. He has cataracts and what my vet called 8 months ago "a tiny tumor" on his eyelid. He is getting older and crabby and also has a tendency to snap at someone if they try to take him out of my arms. Probably not adoptable to anyone else. I am the only mommy he has ever known and I love him as much as I love my birth children. I just cant get a vet to help me! And I'm sorry, maybe I am selfish, but giving him up isnt an option for me. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Is this a vet you have a long term relationship with? Would they be willing to work with you on a payment plan or even take a post dated check? It's worth asking about. Have you called your vet to ask if there is anything you can do/give before you bring him in? 5 days is a long time to go without pooping. At this point, I would be more concerned about some type of blockage than your garden variety constipation, especially with your description of his "hiney" pushing out. Good luck. I understand you wanting to find the answers on the Internet, but please don't let the dog suffer. He needs to be seen.

| Nothing can really be recommended because if the pumpkin isn't working, then there is something stopping him. Pups can have constipation for so many reasons including blockage (sometimes with very scary things). Your pup needs an xray. He cannot continue to back-up like this. Honestly, I would hope it's just a case of simple constipation, but it really does sound like there an an underlying disease process present. Xrays are needed with probable bloodwork. Is he neutered?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | There aren't very many ER vets in Phoenix metro - so which ones have you already called? My heart breaks for you - but you've got to get this baby help; he is counting on you for this. What about friends or family - can they help?

| If it is a blockage (and you won't know unless he goes to a vet) it can be vey serious if you wait. Pleae try family or friends and call all vets in your area. Is there anything you can put up for collateral, or perhaps something you can sell to get some cash? He really needs to be seen after 5 days of no bowel movement. Hopefully you have found a vet by now.
