I swear when my Yorkie dove off the back of my couch at 3 1/2 feet tall my heart skipped a beat I just knew he was going to break all four legs.

He just proceeded to run to the window to bark at the guy standing at our door!

Yorkies are actually (like most dogs) much more equip to land or jump distances several multiples their height...land on their feet that is.

However at the first sign of eve a yelp or limp I'd be taking any breed dog to the vet immediately. Animals genuinely hide pain it's a survival instinct.

I have been reading and following this thread without posting because everyone else had such great advice, but here is my two cents .... we all know that this pup should have been brought right to the ER vet with the symptoms he was showing and that the vet that gave advice over the phone was a huge "red flag" to run for the hills.....it seems that the OP really didn't want advice.....she just wanted to share the experience

What a frightening experience. I experienced something similar with mylittle Lu a few months ago when Lu decided to leap out of my niece's arms on tomy ceramic tile floor. My niece is 6 feet tall and that would make the fall between 3 to 4 feet. By the description I suspect that is likely how far this other little dog fell as well. I thought I might have a heart attack or be sick as I watched Lu land on the floor. Fortunately she was fine. There was no blame to lay as Lu simply behaved unpredictably and chose to take a flying leap for no logical reason. Sometimes dogs do ridiculous things. I haven't read through every single post on this thread but have read enough to agree with some and be saddened by others.

I agree that considering the symptoms this little fellow exhibited right after his fall that a trip to the vet would have been a wise choice. There are numerous things that can occur with such a fall, the symptoms that occurred right after would indicate to me a reason to have things checked out thoroughly. Had he not shown any major symptoms right after the fall I may have considered just keeping a very close eye on him as dogs can do some rather amazing things and be just fine, but that would be a judgement call that not all would feel comfortable with and I would not give that counsel to someone else.

When someone comes here to share an experience or gain advice I think those responding should show some consideration and understanding for the feelings of the original poster. There are some people on this site who are very quick to pass judgement and seem to feel rather comfortable condemning others. I find that awfully disappointing and hope those who chose to behave that way in the past will take a step back and consider they probably would not appreciate being treated likewise. We do not always have to agree but I think we can disagree, share our different opinions or concerns with respect and consideration.

People make decisions based upon the information they have available to them at the time combined with their personal experiences. Not everyone has the same knowledge nor the same life experiences to draw from and that is why places like YT can be helpful.

Saying things that are meant to be hurtful or to condemn someone when they have only done their best, is not helpful and not what I understand to be the purpose of this board.

Thankfully things with this little dog turned out ok. Why can't we simply be happy about that and try to create a place where people can learn from one another? People aren't going to stick around and learn from the members here if when they share something they get attacked and pretty much told how stupid they are. That doesn't do much to create an atmosphere that someone might want to return to.

Everyone who has been busy passing judgement could try realizing they are not perfect and have either in the past or will in the future make a decision that was foolish or made without fully understanding a situation. Shall people who have more knowledge and experience line up to condemn you? I hope they don't.

I am disappointed everytime I see judgemental and condemning statements on this board and the behavior is far too common. I wonder how many people have left from here because they felt attacked? Is that really the sort of environment we want to have here?

A bit of civility and good old fashioned manners goes so much further in teaching than blunt honesty. Because the consern is always for the pup,you definately want to speak in a manner that would want to draw someone new in,not put them off.

In fact, Canadian animal welfare laws are stricter as a whole. Subjectively of course.

Worry about your own responses rather than what everyone else is posting. In fact, it could easily be looked at two ways, while you are complaining we are being mean or rude, some of us could complain that you are encouraging irresponsible behavior that puts dogs at risk.
