Default Original Vet visit reason

I had originally taken Deucy to that stupid vet because he had not been acting like himself...not playing with me, not eating, just laying around and even HIDING from me at times as though he didn't feel well. That's the ONLY reason I took him in. I asked for blood work to be drawn and when they did that, the Vet showed me that his liver enzymes were up but nothing else..so, then, he felt Deucy's abdomen and said...hmmm, does he poop ok? I said, YES...every day, right on time, without fail since he was born!!! The vet still said..well, I think we should give him an enema, I can feel some hard poop in there. I said, if there is ANY poop, it is from his meal today. If only I had taken Deucy and RAN out of there right THEN.............none of this would have happened. After the enema, I asked the Vet what came out????? He said, a little 4 in piece of poop. I said,........YEp...that's from his meal today. He's always pooped great after every meal but, yesterday he was not feeling well and didnt' eat much and didn't poop as of 1:30 when I took him to the Vet. He WOULD have pooped that out as soon as we got home, Im sure of it.

I hope this Metronidiazole 500 MG per day for 14 days does not SCREW HIM UP WORSE. I've read horrible things about it. I'm actually afraid to give it to him. I asked my old Vet today when she prescribed it about side effects or adverse effects...as I mentioned, she doesn't have a very pleasant bedside manner. Her response: BRenda, I wouldn't give you anything that would kill him". Yet, I've read where this exact thing has happened..and that toxicity has happened A LOT. Has anybody here given their toy yorkie 500 mg of it daily for 14 days?????????????????????

I totally understand your feelings on vets. The good ones seem few and far between......I also lost one from a vets incompetence.....It is such a terrible feeling when you trust and it costs you dearly......You never want to trust blindly again.....

Keep us posted on Deucy, and good luck setting that terrible vet straight.....
yep had I not taken dex to internal medicine specialist he would be dead. Vet told me he had a tumor manifesting in his pancreas at two years old. Basically he is going to die. I said not if i can help it - get all his records I am picking him up in an hour. UH she was wrong no tumor and I had to pay for another 400.00 ultrasound as they would not accept her ultrasound guys results. She is no longer in business as sold her practice. She did not even know the specialty hospital in the county. I had to find it out on my own to save my dog. 4 years later Dex is doing GREAT. If i left him under her care I believe he would be DEAD.

actually that antibiotic is used alot. Not sure on the doseage though so maybe someone else can help you there - hey did you tell her that yeah and I trusted the last guy and why I am here today seeing you lollllll

Here is my biggest concern is the liver enzymes being high - was that the alt? How old is deucy? Him behaving this way and having high liver enzymes can be tied to liver issues. What percentage of protein are you feeding? Liver issues do run in this breed and yorkies are 38% more likely to have liver issues than any other breed. So once you get him through this you may need to run some bile acids on this little one.

Default I called the stupid, incompetent vet

I called him and told him about his awful ERRORS and about me taking Deucy to my old vet and HER NAME....I said, "You have caused more damage than you will EVER know. How COULD you hurt an innocent, loving 5 pound, love of my life? You are INCOMPETENT and I have CANCELLED my checks for your INCOMPETENT services yesterday..he said, "oh, ok". JUST LIKE THAT! He KNOWS he should not be practicing Vet med. THen, I said, "you have NO idea what you have put Deucy through this last 24 hours NON_STOP..and for WHAT? He didnt' even have an INFECTION like you said. Just because his liver enzymes were up, they were still within the range and my old Vet said, he has NO INFECTION, WBC is normal, Creatine, NORMAL....YOU have caused this awful HELL on an innocent animal and I'm reporting you immediately! His reply, "oh, ok...I'm sorry and thanks for calling me". ???????????

Now, I'm going to send him a copy of my old Vet's bill from today which is HIS fault. I also reported him to the BBB and am getting ready to report him to the AMVA.
Deucy is so worn out and weak that he has been asleep since we got home a few hours ago. He has to be right by my side though so, if I get up to go to the restroom, he makes himself get up and follow me to be close to me. My heart is aching uncontrollably for putting him through this.

Any remarks yet on the Metronidazole, 500 mg daily for 14 days??????

oh and you will love this one. The guy who bought her practice called me saying I could bring my dogs in for a free vet visit - probably bc he saw i spent $3500 with this woman before i got Dex to specialist. He was very nice and I told him straight up do you know your stuff bc I am now much more knowledgeable than i was back then and need someone who is competent to care for my dogs with health issues. She also gave my dog too high a dose of atopica for dd and i questioned it called mfg and she was wrong that was the final straw as i still gave her the benefit of the doubt with the whole dex thing as i was stupid back then. I told him here is what is going on with my dogs and I now deal mostly with specialists and rattled everything going on and we had a great conversation and he said dang you probably know more than me after talking to you wow. He mentioned he just got back from a seminar on using fat from dog to put in joints for thinks like hip and knees which costs about 3k which I was aware of as it was a year ago when dd hurt her leg that i had found this out. At least he was furthering his education which was impressive. I just told him straight up I am super skeptical now and want to know I am dealing with someone that knows there stuff now. He apologized for all I had been through and said she is no longer there and he is the owner now and he would examine dd leg for free back then. I said I will have to think about it as i prefer ortho.

The biggest thing is not the money it is the fact that I now have no TRUST. This is the scary place to be when your dog is sick and you have no one you can TRUST. Luckily there are specialists I trust 100% and will just go to them. But not everyone can afford that so I totally get where you are coming from OP.

he had no response as they will not do anything sadly ;( but still move forward with it in the hopes that they will but i have heard over and over they do nothing. It is not like human medicine sadly - no malpractice insurance so they get away with doing it and continue to do business as usual.

Don't beat yourself up it was not your fault

I just checked the dosages prescribed for 2 of my dogs of the metro. Maya my pom was prescribed 250 mg pills and to take 1/2 twice a day, so that would be 250mg a day. She was 12 lbs. My yorkie Cali was prescribed 250 mg pills and instructed to take 1/4 tab once a day for 7 days or until stools were normal. She is 5 1/2 lbs. I cannot advise you on what to do but that is what my 2 were prescribed. I hope your baby feels better soon.

Before they accurately diagnosed Bella with Addison's, they thought she had some intestinal problem and put her on Metronidazole 62.5mg, 1/2 tab twice a day. She is appx. 5 1/2 pounds.
Your dosage sounds high comparatively

Oh my gosh, I just learned of this happening and am sooooo heartsick for you Brenda and Deucy.
I just phoned Brenda she's so exhausted and sick at heart over what has happened, she said she misposted on the doseage, she was told to give the same that Patti had been directed to do.

Please keep Brenda in prayer for Deucy, I am so sad at heart what has happened to Deucy and her, this little fella is her life. I just pray that he quits bleeding. The Lady Vet said the clotting should happen, she did do a check on the blood clotting factor it showed good. Let's just pray the clotting takes place so his bleeding will stop.
Brenda please know we love you dearly, I'll never forget your kindness awhile back that you gave for another YT'er. You are one very special lady. You have been through so much and then this.

We have to go to the city, I'll come back later.

for Deucy and Brenda,

Love and Hugs, Patti and Jack

I am glad you took Duecy to the other vet and your car made it. I feel so bad for this little one. You must be exhausted. Saying a prayer for both of you.

Brenda...I'm so sorry that Deucy is so ill and I am praying for you and him. Patti called me earlier today, but I haven't been able to get on the computer till now.

I'm so sorry you and Deucy are having to go through this. I am so glad you were able to get into a vet that could help you and give you reassurance. I'll keep you in my prayers and hope to see a positive update soon! Hugs to you!

Default update on Deucy 8:27pm

I do believe that God has heard your prayers as Deucy's bleeding is starting to taper off..It's not nearly as much now and it is starting to change colors..not as bright a red now as it has been since yesterday afternoon when this all started. He still has blood though and we're still not out of the woods. He ate a tablespoon of the I/D canned food my "good" Vet gave us and I put his other 1/2 of Flagyl into it. He almost ATE MY FINGERS trying to gobble it down. He has his appetite back, thank GOD. But, he can't have hardly anything to eat or drink yet. The Vet said she will call me tomorrow 9SUNDAY) and see how he's doing. Now, that's what a Vet SHOULD do. He slept for several hours after we got back from the Vet today and I slept with him. I'm hoping the worst is over. HE JUST BARKED for the first time in days and is right now as I type this TELLING me that he pottied on the potty pad and needs his treat for doing so!!!!!!!! I can't give him one yet as the Vet's instructions do not include it. GOOD SIGNS!!!! Thank you, Lord!!!
I just can't stop telling Deucy how much I love him. I've always told him every day countless times all day long but since this started, it's every other MINUTE. I still have not stopped crying or blaming myself for this. PATTI, (Baby Blessing), THANK YOU for all you are doing and have done for Deucy and I. I am SO very blessed to have you in my life.and a dear, dear friend.
Thank you ALL for praying for my little man. I KNOW God hears them!!! He is always listening to us.
