| ![]() I just got back from my old vet in Ft. Scott, KS..about 46 miles from me. I had called her last night and told her what had happened so far. She was SOOO good, I figured she'd try to put her finger up his butt and i was going to STOP her...she didn't even try. THen, she ran more blood work CBC and he has NO INFECTION. She also looked at the blood work from the first STUPID vet and said, this does NOT mean he has an infection. He has NO INFECTION at all.......SO, the first STUPID vet tried to give me BATRIL to give Deucy 10 mg per day for NO REASON whatsoever. I am still as LIVID as one can possibly be. I went directly to my BANK, Deucy in my arms after getting back from the Ft. Scott vet and CANCELLED payment on those two checks for yesterday ..paying for HIS SCREW UPS...200.00. for WHAT????? THIS MESS?????????????????????????????????? I Tell you, I could just KILL right now. Now, that I'm home and Deucy has had IV fluids, probiotics, I/d canned food a small amount at a time and Metronidazole for the SCREWUP the STUPID vet did to his INTESTINES with the NON_NEEDED enema that caused this whole thing.............I'm ready to call the STUPID vet and give him a GOOD piece of my mind. I'm also reporting him to the BBB and telling him that I CANCELLED payments for the SCREW UP he did to Deucy yesterday. HOW COULD he put an INNOCENT BABY through this hell?????????????????????????????// He put us BOTH through HELL from yesterday at 2:00pm until..........CURRENTLY still goijng through this...And another Vet bill for 72.00 from Ft. Scott. HIs name is Dr. Johnson, Broadway Animal Hospital, Pittsburg KS 66762 NEVER TAKE YOUR PET TO HIM or HIS OFFICE.................... PS...the reason the Vet at Ft. Scott could not stop the bleeding is because it's coming from his INTESTINES from the enema..........the only way she said is that it would clot on its own in time and stop (he's still bleeding today)...He was borderline anemic today due to all this blood loss. She said she could do exploratory surgery but I did NOT want to put him through that. I trust her and her opinion and will follow her instructions. Hope everyone has learned a lesson from Deucy ...............DO NOT LET A VET give your baby an enema UNLESS he/she absolutely needs one and is constipated beyond help from oil, etc. Deucy wasn't even constipated!!!!!!!!! I told the vet that!!!!!! Why didn't I just walk out with him right then......? I'm STUPID for letting this happen to my precious baby. We're still not out of the woods. He can only have a few tablespoons of water and a few tbsp of I/D canned food with his probiotics for several days and he is on 500 mg of metronidazole for his intestines. LEARN FROM THIS EVERYONE. |

Thanks for sharing this as hopefully it will help others understand why they need to educate themselves to best care for their pets and follow their gut. If it does not feel right do not let them do it. I was pressured into giving my dog a drug I knew was not good for her but i trusted the professional and now I am paying the price still as my dog NEVER had intestinal issues before and now she does off and on for a year now. It is so frustrating as one mistake can take a long time to clear up a toy breed dog and sometimes never clear it up. I hope your baby gets better real soon and so sorry you went through this.

| ![]() Why did the vet tell you he was doing the enema? Because he was constipated and it'd help the "infection"? I'm so sorry you and Deuce had to go through all this. I'm glad you finally found a vet you can trust and that helped your baby. I hope the remainder of the recovery goes quickly and smoothly. |

| ![]() So, they don't think his intestines are perforated? That's what I thought with so much bleeding. Poor baby, this is awful! And like I said, I have never heard of a dog getting an enema, and then an antibiotic that wasn't needed. Sounds like he was taking you for a ride $$. So sorry. This story makes me want to cry. I really hope your baby gets well soon.

There are some incompetent vets, but not all of them are.

![]() Many times they go right to antibiotics before making sure they have an infection but I always make sure they have an infection before giving an antibiotic - It will show up on blood work, fecal or urine if there is an infection. Why treat something if you do not know what it is?

The only way you can recover your money is through small claims court. The vet can send you to collections for failure to pay thus affecting your credit. Dogs are considered property so all you can do is get your money back through small claims court and there is no malpractice insurance in veterinary medicine. There are websites where you can rate a vet so google rate a vet and you can rate him so others that google his name it will show up Just tragic I need to go back to original post to see why you went to vet in first place ![]() Last edited by dwerten; 06-19-2010 at 09:31 AM.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() That is terrible I am so glad you got Deucy into a good vet. I found that the metronaidazole works pretty quick for tummy problems. Has the bleeding slowed down at all? I will keep Deucy in my prayers for a quick and full recovery.

Usually white blood cell count is high on blood work where there is infection There is a reason in human medicine they do not rush to antibiotics anymore and they make people wait to get them so they do not become immune yet in vet medicine it seems to be the first thing they do before running proper testing Last edited by dwerten; 06-19-2010 at 09:35 AM.

| ![]() WOW Brenda, that is beyond terrible!....I sure hope Deucy is doing much better, that poor baby.......You might want to look into applying for Care Credit, it's a credit line for health purposes, human or pet. I've used mine and it was all interest free. You could just have it in a drawer for emergencies like this......It's been great to have...... I totally understand your feelings on vets. The good ones seem few and far between......I also lost one from a vets incompetence.....It is such a terrible feeling when you trust and it costs you dearly......You never want to trust blindly again..... Keep us posted on Deucy, and good luck setting that terrible vet straight.....

I am more referring to the situation I encountered. DD was rubbing her vulva and so i took in urine and her to vet as was concerned it was uti. First thing before sending urine to lab vet says lets give her a convenia shot of antibiotic and I said but we do not even know if she has infection and this can be allergy related so I am not comfortable with it until I know and aren't shots stronger than pills. He stated yes it lasts 14 days but no side effects and i said no not comfortable until i know if uti. Then he said well since she has a little diarrhea going on lets do baytril to cover uti and diarrhea and i said I am going to put her back on probiotics as she did well on those and I ended up taking baytril but did not give it to her until urinalysis came back to let me know what was going on. AT end of appt I said you are aware in your chart that dd had hives from simplicef correct so are any of these antibiotics in the same family? He said oh no good thing we did not give her the convenia shot as that is in the same family. I was so mad and just wanted to run out of the office but still felt intimidated and bought the baytril and that stuff is not cheap. He called me the next day and said good news NO UTI. So why the antibiotic? This is what is upsetting to me as he was so quick to do two antibiotics with NO INFECTION. I then took her to derm and it was her allergies manifesting in her vulva region so we us chlorhexedine wipes twice a week to keep her under control down there. Now in an emergency situation you gotta do what you gotta do and if dog is not getting better then yes you have to try everything that you think can help what is a ripped horn? I have no clue on breeding stuff and know that is your expertise ![]() Last edited by dwerten; 06-19-2010 at 09:56 AM.
