this is so true and what makes it all so difficult
I am more referring to the situation I encountered. DD was rubbing her vulva and so i took in urine and her to vet as was concerned it was uti. First thing before sending urine to lab vet says lets give her a convenia shot of antibiotic and I said but we do not even know if she has infection and this can be allergy related so I am not comfortable with it until I know and aren't shots stronger than pills. He stated yes it lasts 14 days but no side effects and i said no not comfortable until i know if uti. Then he said well since she has a little diarrhea going on lets do baytril to cover uti and diarrhea and i said I am going to put her back on probiotics as she did well on those and I ended up taking baytril but did not give it to her until urinalysis came back to let me know what was going on. AT end of appt I said you are aware in your chart that dd had hives from simplicef correct so are any of these antibiotics in the same family? He said oh no good thing we did not give her the convenia shot as that is in the same family. I was so mad and just wanted to run out of the office but still felt intimidated and bought the baytril and that stuff is not cheap. He called me the next day and said good news NO UTI. So why the antibiotic? This is what is upsetting to me as he was so quick to do two antibiotics with NO INFECTION.
I then took her to derm and it was her allergies manifesting in her vulva region so we us chlorhexedine wipes twice a week to keep her under control down there.
Now in an emergency situation you gotta do what you gotta do and if dog is not getting better then yes you have to try everything that you think can help
what is a ripped horn? I have no clue on breeding stuff and know that is your expertise
