now i know liquid vitamins are better than pill form would that be the same as meds as liquid does not have to be broken down like pill form in vitamins so just curious as just thought of this as well? | |

Generic cyclo., of course, is more affordable. Anecdotally - I can confirm this experience just as of this week...so it's funny you asked this right now. I've had Marcel on Atopica for about a year now? But Wylie's compounding Pharmacy happens to make Generic Cyclo. - so I thought we'd try it for Marcel - we tried it for about 3 weeks now - and sure enough....Marcel is chewing his paws again. So, it will be back to Atopica. So, that's an example of how bio-A is so different from med to med . So...my long point is...lol...it's tough to say about each particular medication, in terms of "which form" bc it can be so different for each individual med. Cyclosporine, for example, can also be put in a suspension...but I would wonder if that's really the best form for its bio-A . It also depends on *where* in the system the drug is supposed to be absorbed/broken down (ie, tummy, small intestine etc...).

| Thanks Linda, I did get the Clindamycin in pill form. Buster gets 1/8 of a tablet once a day. I'm not sure why the vet didn't give me the pills in the first place as he told me the liquid tasted bad (maybe he thought we would have issues cutting the pills so small ). I had to leave before they called back and DH picked up the pills and the tech quartered the pills but it was up to us to cut them smaller. But anything is better than the liquid.

| [QUOTE=dwerten;3011089]how much does buster weigh?[/QUOTE On a good day Buster weighs 4 lbs. Most of the time he is 3.6 or 3.8 lbs. He was probably under 4 lbs the day of the extractions as he could not have food after 9:00PM the night before and the surgery wasn't until 11:30 the next day.

Linda, do you have any guesses as to why it seems the liquid is being given out more often? Is the powder (pre-mix) just more common right now? Longer shelf life? Now I'm curious...but I honestly don't know... (ugh....if I find out it's a higher mark-up, revenue-generator...ugh...) As usual, looks like your vet is doing the right thing . Are you sure the practice doesn't want to move here? The weather really IS nice. Plus? DRY HEAT.

I don't think it has anything at all to do with money. Of course, sometimes it just is not possible to give pills especially to the smaller pups because of the small dosages. It just depends upon the medication. My vet knows that I prefer pills. I hate that liquid metronidazole...it has to be refrigerated and is just sticky and nasty imo. I much prefer the pills. Oh, I totally LOVE my vet. I have used her for about nine years now. I used to travel between NJ and TX and I really lucked up when I found her. She is an excellent diagnostician ... in all of those years, she has never missed the boat with any of my pups. And, she has seen many since I have fosters. Sorry, but you will have to come here and get used to WET HEAT!

Dang, I love your vet TOO . Very good point, so true - many pets cannot do pills, hence the liquid. I'm lucky w/ my boys bc they love peanut butter - so I can take any pill, smear it w/ PB, and done (or if can be given w/ food, mush it in there). But yes, some people have an awful time getting any pill into a dog - so true. Again - DRY HEAT .
