agree mid meal is best but dd had clostridium prior to taking it and has allergies bad and she did not have any vomitting or diarrhea the 25 days she was on it but i did 1/2 food then antibiotic then 1/2 food and i did probiotics 2 hrs after and first thing in am 30 min before food and i gave her clinda with her dinner so i doubled up her probiotics and staph is gone and no diarrhea and started probiotics a week before taking antibiotics

Definitely do not take your pup off of it. If you cannot get him to take it , get another antibiotic. But do not let him go without an antibiotic. Bacteria that flourish in their mouths are not good for their heart or their kidneys. Once their teeth have been pulled, it leaves the bloodstream wide open for these bacteria; once in the blood stream they travel throughtout the body and can do serious damage. As uncomfortable as it is for them, it could be dangerous without it.

Clindamycin comes in 25 mg TABLETS!!!!!

You might ask how I know? Well, I did NOT GOOGLE it. My Pippi had a dental on the 4th and took Clindamycin TABLETS after that because she had an extraction. Again, Clindamycin is what is usually recommended after dentals.

I normally only post about things I have had experience with and I have had plenty of experience with dentals and extractions. In rescue especially you run across some pretty bad teeth in yorkies.

Can you post link to it as i asked compounding pharmacy ,vet and dermatologist and all said no pill form only capsule as i prefer pills myself but all told me there is not a pill form for clindamyacin so i think you are confusing clavamox but i could be wrong but i asked over and over as dd is horrible to get liquids down so want a link in case she gets staph again i can show document of pill form and have them order it

just found it that pisses me off as i asked everyone about this so looks like it is new and virbac carries it here it is

i bet i know why as she was on 1.2ml so to break up a tablet to 1.2 is impossible so that is probably why as they could not get the doseage down that low with a 25mg tablet

how did you dose down low enough for a 7lb dog with a 25mg tablet ?

it says 2.5mg per pound every 12 hrs on this link but they wanted 1.2 ml not sure how that equates though from pill to liquid form.

yeah also familiar with dentals as my maltese had 27 extractions and she went to board certified dentist as well and he prescribed clavamox so i will call and ask why clavamox vs clinda and my guess is he got the infection out of the body as he is not big on over using antibiotics for dentals he said antibiotics are way over used in this profession in his opinion so when dd had 5 extractions he refused to give her any antibiotics at all said it was not necessary and only reason demi got them is because she has severe periodontal but dd does not and he said if he gave them to dd he would be irresponsible and that would be over use of antibiotics as i wanted them for her staph infection in combination for dental and he said NOPE get from dermatologist for staph as he is not treating staph and for dental it is not necessary and dee dee was fine no issues in mouth at all.

Vet kept telling me demi needed antibiotics before dental etc and dentist said no way that is not necessary at all - he does all our dentals since he is further educated in dentistry as he is board certified so i trust him and our bc dermatologist takes her cat there and jean dodds and houndstooth all recommend him highly he has an excellent reputation out here.

Maybe clinda is used if leaving the teeth in not sure but his take is if the teeth are diseased they will cause disease to teeth next to it and since toy breeds have a small bone to tooth ratio unlike big dogs and humans that any diseased teeth left in will affect the other teeth and bone loss occurs when a dog has loose teeth and demi had loose teeth and it happened fast within a week of getting blood work and urine checked she went from 2 loose teeth to about 10 freaked me out and why i went to two dentist consults with two different dentists as thought i could save the teeth and both told me the same thing

the one said she could bone pack lolll and cut gums sew them up and put her under in 6 mos for 3k and my dentist said that bone packing does not really work in humans and it is EXPENSIVE so look at spending 10k and so i went to the other dentist and he said if they are diseased they are coming out dogs do not need teeth they can live fine with no teeth and it is not healthy for them to have diseased teeth in their mouth

i freaked she lost so many at 4 years old but i learned petzlife gel is not the saver as i tried it for a year and should have had dental a year prior

As I said, I don't google for answers. This is why googling is not a great idea, imo. I only post from my experience and/or knowledge. I am a registered nurse, so I don't need to google mg and ml. Feel free to do it yourself since you don't believe me anyway. But......

ml = cc

ml and cc = volume


ml is not a dose ... it is an amount of mass volume


mg is the dose...not the amount of the volume

The liquid has an amount of mg/ml

i am aware of that but 1.2 ml of 25mg bottle is reason they did not give me tablets and would have to compound it down to dose dd as they did not want her on a large dose as dermatologist is not big on heavy antibiotics either like our dentist so that is why liquid is necessary and I just googled the tablets to find the information in a few seconds so information was there I just thought pet meds had all meds but since this is new from virbac probably why they do not carry it as it says in link the first clindamyacin available in easy to swallow tablet form

this could be the reason why most vets do liquid over capsule or tablet as doseage is too high in tablet or capsule for toy breeds for what is being used for

also just read it should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat so will ask why vet told me to put in fridge for better taste -hmmmm will call dermatologist on that one too

No, clearly you are not aware. You are talking about a 25 mg bottle...there is no such thing.

cc and ml are NOT mg ...

Perhaps you need to google the metric system....might help you to better understand.

lol i just did is this accurate? as I am not real happy to have given my dog who is very difficult giving liquid a liquid form if there is a tablet form and i asked 3 professionals for this and was told no option so i am not REAL HAPPY to be let down again bc maybe they did not have it in their back office and it was a little inconvenient for them to order it for me so why i am so interested in learning this as dd does great on pills NOT on liquid so for 25 days i had to try to get this liquid in her and i am not going to be very happy with these people if i was lied to again so i appreciate you explaining this as i am not a nurse and AGAIN trusted the VETS- now you can see again why i get so frustrated about all this stuff

So, for your kiddo, the range would be 17.5-105mg every 12 hours (in tablet form). If using 25mg tablets...(I'm *guessing* here!!! ) perhaps they'd do 1-4 tabs every 12 hours. Did I do that right ? (the dosage would be a clinical judgment by the vet, of course)
