| DHPPV reaction I had Zhoie's titers done a couple weeks ago and they came back with her numbers low for both her parvovirus and distemper. Late yesterday afternoon I took her in for her bloodwork for her dental on Monday morning and she also got the DHPPV shot. We live about 1 mile from the vet, when we got home she started heavy panting and scurrying room to room low to the ground, like in a panic. I rushed her back to the bet and she was having a reaction to the shot. They gave her a steroid shot and observed her for awhile. I was to watch her breathing and for swelling, if either occurred rush her to MD enmergency vet as my bet was closed. She finally settled down and stared to rest later in the evening. Zhoie will be 5 in January and this is the first time we've ever had to get a booster and can't imagine getting this one again. The bet said when she needs it again they will give her Benedryal prior to the shot. I was terrified for my girl, but Im thanking the good Lord she is ok.

| So glad things turned out okay for Zhoie and how scary! My Piccolo cannot have any vaccines due to cutaneous vasculitis. It has been 4 or 5 years since her last vaccine and honestly, we have not had any problems whatsoever. I do keep her away from dog parks and dogs I do not know. (The other two pups get vaccines) I have talked to my vet about this and had titers for her in the past. Piccolo's health to me is more important than the laws, so I did tell my vet that I was choosing to break the law on this one. I want to add that I am definitely not against vaccines, just against vaccines for Piccolo that could cause illness or death.

| Yes, I will have to think long and hard about giving it to her again. Zhoie doesn't go to dog parks either, nor do I let her walk on the floor at vet or any pet stores. It was so scary, never witnessed that before and hope to never see it again.

| I'm so sorry this happened to Zhoie. I know you were out of your mind with worry. The mommy instinct came out and you handled the situation quickly and got her help. Thank God she is doing well this morning.

| omg.. I know that scared you to death! I am glad it worked out and she is ok now. I have such mixed feelings about the different shots. Sam, my almost 10 year old has not had any other then rabies in several years. I didn't even do the titers this year and next year when rabies are due I hope to get a waver because he has the kidney disease. He is fine... but I will say I keep up on heartworm etc. That is a totaly different story! I have a rescue/adopted dog that did not have any shots for 5 years -- even rabies. The groomer is a friend and never asked for records. I didn't really mean to not have shots..but time just pasted. He was altered and the wonderful vet I had at the time thought he was Sam (my other dog) and never asked for record. I didn't know this until after all was said and done.. but I did think..isn't it on sam's records that you neutered him???makes you think lol Anyway.... I am happy zoie is ok.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Wow I am sorry she went through that. It is scary when they have a reaction. One of my older cats had a reaction and I am not going to give them anymore. They are indoor and the younger ones are going to still get them. I don't want to kill my kitty over a shot.

| I'm so glad that your beautiful Zhoie is okay. I would have been so terrified, too. My rainbow bridge baby, Ashley, had an enlarged heart. Her doctor stopped all shots at the age of ten, and she lived seven more years. We didn't go to dog parks, but we walked at least a couple of miles each day. I just had Katie titered, and her blood levels came back good. She is four years old. Please give your precious baby some extra kisses from me.

| I wouldn't give it again and I wouldn't do any more titers. I hope everything goes well for her!

| Nor would I. My vet has put stickers not to give DHPP on a couple of my pups' charts who had reactions....and they were not as bad as what you described.
