| Orasone??? Does anybody know anything about this drug? Have they used it before? They just put my miracle on it along with antibiotics for allergies and infection. They gave her 1 mg 2 in the morning and 2 at night and she has STOPPED itching after ONE day!! She is like when we first brought her into our home. She has taken predisone in the past but never had the results she has now. They suggested I also change her diet but if I'm not mistaken if this was a food allergy the medication would not work.

| Orasone is the "Trade Name" for Prednisone; Prednisone being the generic name for the drug. Orasone is an anit-inflammatory drug. This also assists in immunosuppresion in cases such as your little one. It stops the body from producing the histamines which are produced when an allergen stimulates our immune system. If it is a food allergy the Orasone would still work on your little one. So in essence, it is masking the trigger of the allergic reaction. So you still need to find out if the food is the issue. What are your feeding her? |

Sweet Potato and venison, I also add to that Wellness sweet potato and venson but am weaning her off that to just do the sweet potato and venison. I believe that she is allergic to brown rice. When I had her on predisone she was still itching, I had her on .25mg twice a day, I was sharing my predisone with her as prescribed by her vet. The allergist/derm vet put her on the orasone. She has also had injections of steroids that only worked for a week.

She is on venison and sweet potato. I believe she is allergic to brown rice as that was one of things I gave her when all of this started back in August.

Food allergies cause the epidermal symptoms such as Urticaria, rash, itching, inflammation, etc. Orasone is a very effective steroid used in these cases to treat these symptoms. It does not treat the allergen, whether food or environmental, but only the symptoms caused by it. The symptoms break through when the patient's system becomes adapted to the dosage given. sferrini wrote:"She has also had injections of steroids that only worked for a week. " This is why the injections of steroids worked, if only for a week. The strength of these dosages are usually higher than the prescription tablets given to you by the vet. Also, injections are immediate in that they are transmitted directly into the vascular system, and do not go through the entire GI tract first. I would contact the vet and ask for another shot, and maybe you might want to think about having him give her a blood test that tests for antigen-induced antibodies in her blood. There are two that are usually done ; a RAST , (radioallergosorbent) or an ELISA,( enzyme-linked immunosborben assay). Hope this helps. Last edited by lil fu fu girl; 02-09-2010 at 01:31 PM.

| we did two blood tests on my allergy girl one from spectrum labs and one from biomedical but did not help much and cost 400 each and it shows what she is allergic to but not like i can do much about it as it is in the environment. I went to dermatologist and she said skin testing is a waste of money unless i want to do hyposensitization shots which is most natural and they work 85% of the time but i had read alot that sometimes they make dogs worse so i was afraid to do this |

Agreed, I would definitely lean toward the Corticosteroid Temaril-p instead of the dexamethasone. Corticosteroids are less damaging and can be used for longer periods of time, whereas the prednisone is usually prescribed for treatments of short duration. we did two blood tests on my allergy girl one from spectrum labs and one from biomedical but did not help much and cost 400 each and it shows what she is allergic to but not like i can do much about it as it is in the environment. My little girl has respiratory allergies and is on and off chlorpheniramine. At least she is getting some relieve with it. Good luck with your little one, I know it is very worrisome when you are trying to do what is right for them.

| Yep, you suggested that to be on the allerdog group and I have decided to take your advise, they wanted be to put her on ostrich and oatmeal and I know you suggested not to and I thought about it and talked with them and the doc suggested pumpkin and ostrich but I am going to stick with what she is on now.

I'm not sure why I would ask for another injection when the pills she is taking are working better than the injection did. She had a complete blood test and chemistry panel and everything came back fine.
