Bijou's leg is broken & she in surgery

Ellie had 2 pins put in her leg. After they were taken out, she seemed fine. Can you believe that she actually wanted to run and play while she had them in? Anyway, now you can't even tell that she ever had anything happen to her leg.

I am praying that you get an update soon.

I am so sorry.

A few months ago Ella jumped off my bed and hurt her leg. We took her to the vet and thank god it wasn't broken. She gave her pain medication and it helped. Although, she couldn't walk on it for about a month. It's been about four months and she has just fully recovered.

I was advised to get Moses leg pinned and plated when he broke it in the same place. Unfortunately, I could not afford that surgery and had them set it. It ended up having to be amputated as that type of break rarely heals with just a cast. Now it has been 2 months since he lost his leg and he is just the most happy puppy. Runs, plays, dances on his hind legs. What I am trying to say is, it will only seem like the end of the world if the surgery is not successful and they have to remove her leg. She will recover and get along just fine without it. I keep asking Mosey where's his leg and he just looks at me!! He is a sweetie and he is just fine and yours will be too.

Oh I am so sorry you all are going through this !! You are such a wonderful mommy and I know that Bijou will be really taken care of while she is healing. I know how truly excited and happy you were to have her in your life and this must be killing you.

Unfortunately accidents happen and your daughter will be extra careful now because of this. It was a hard way to learn a lesson though and I feel really sorry for her that she had to learn that way .

You rescued Bijou and gave her a wonderful home, please try to focus on all of the many wonderful happy days that you both have ahead of you together and remember that this will pass. I am sending hugs and prayers your way for all of you .

Thanks everyone! Your stories help me realize this is the best option for her and the prayers help me feel she'll be ok. The surgeon called at 4:30 and advised they were just then taking her into surgery! I'm not happy about that as she's been there for four or more hours without surgery and they may have to take her to the e-vet for over night monitoring since it's so late now. I'm so disappointed in their customer service skills over there.

Oh my I just can't believe all this. I am sooo sorry for you all. I wish there was something I could do. I will pray that she makes it through surgery. If you need to talk please give me a call. If you need someone to watch her in the day I don't work and I would be glad to help.

I'm so sorry about Baby Bijou!!!! Obviously your daughter did mean for her to get hurt, but being on the sofa should definitely not be allowed without some type of ramp so she doesn't jump off again.

Sending my prayers that the surgery goes well and she heals quickly and completely. As far as staying overnite, I know it isn't the best option, but she will probably still be under the effects of anesthesia for a while and they can also monitor pain levels.

I'm sorry to hear that Bijou's leg is broken. its never easy to handle this and your gonna have your hands full even more so being that she is a puppy.

I worked for a vet orthopedic surgeon for over 2 years so if you have any questions please feel free to ask and i can try to help you out.

Its good that she is having surgery done by an orthopedic surgeon. From my experience ER doctors are good at what they do in emergencies but just like regular vets they cannot set fractures. The ones that worked at the place i did (sounds like the same type of set up where your girl is) were great vets and very kind but you could totally tell the difference between a ER splint and a orthopedic splint. So Bijou is in great hands. i'm sorry she didn't go into surgery until late in the day but unfortunately that's the way it is. The surgeon has surgeries that are booked each day so non-life threatening same days or transfers (from overnight er) get done last. Booked appointments and life threatening surgeries have priority, at least that's the way it was at my place.

I'm sure you'll hear from the vet real soon and Bijou will be in recovery. Its best that she is staying overnight because i'm sure she'll be on great pain meds and IV fluids. Since she's young and tiny she needs to be monitored 24/7 after a major surgery like that.

I am keeping Bijou in my prayers. I think your dtr feels bad enough, grounding won't help. She can help watch her when you can't and help in other ways that will make her feel better and you.

I am sooo sorry this has happened to you! We are dealing with a break too. This babies are so fragile, even the most careful person can have accidents. I thought we were doing everything right and we still have a broken foot. I will be praying for your little Bijou and I am sure she will recover wonderfully. She is very loved!!!

Poor baby Hopefully surgery had been started and you will have some good news very soon. I just wanted to answer your questions about infection from the surgery. Having any foreign object (pins) placed into the body always runs a slight risk of infection. When I had my ortho surgery for my break this is the exact same thing I was told was a possibility for me as well. After my surgery I opted to stay over night because I wanted to make sure that I was pumped up with plenty of antibiotics and my pain was under control. These same things care a standard of care whether doggies or people so she is in very good hands spending the night. I will be watching for updates

I am SOO sorry about your baby! I am sure your daughter is feeling much worse than any punishment can be given to her. You have to think that although this is bad enough someone had to be watching over her as she could've just as easily landed on her head. Give her kisses from us when you bring her home

Not sure if you saw this thread or not but down the road you will need steps or ramps for your little girl. My little 3# girl runs up and down the stairs all the time. So does my 15# Yorkie wannabe..
