| Bijou's leg is broken & she in surgery I'm so, so, so upset!!! My 17 yoa daughter was puppy sitting Bijou yesterday evening and she had her on the couch with her and Barley. Well, Barley heard something outside and jumped from the seat to the back of the couch to look out the windows. When he did this Bijou fell off the couch onto her butt on the floor. She cried for a few seconds and then wouldn't stand up. I rushed home from work and the minute I seen her trying to walk to greet me I knew she had to go into the vet's. She was walking on three legs and holding up the back left one. We went to the emergency vet's as our's was closed. X-rays showed a clear break in the tibia and fibula (small bones in the calf area of the leg). They splinted it and said it should heal without incident if we keep her calm. I was up all night with her crying every 15 to 30 minutes in pain. That's with pain medicine in her. She started having diarrhea last night after all this too. I gave her Nutri Cal for puppies both last night and this morning. But her gums were white this am and she's refusing to eat, but will drink water. I rushed her into my vet's and they checked her gums, tempature and vitals. Gums were back to pink and temp/vitals good. They x-rayed her to see how well the e-vet did with setting the leg. My vet said we needed to go to the orthopedic specialist so we went there immediately with the x-rays. The orthopedic surgeon came in to talk to me and was sooooo rude, but Bijou needed surgery so I had to leave her with them. She told me that Bijou would have to stay over night in the emergency vet's (right next to / actually joined to the specialist office) and I said I didn't want that because I know sick dogs come in over there and she's only had two sets of shots. She had the nerve to tell me that since my baby has diarrhea that she could be contagious to the other dogs too as she doesn't know if it's parvo or not. I explained to her for the third time that the diarrhea came on after the injury and meds in the middle of the night. She said well, it could still be contagious. So I said well let's test her for parvo, don't they have some test for that. She said that she doesn't do tests like that there only surgery. WFT!!! So I told her to call Dr. D at my vets at talk with her on Bijou's history. How insane, right?! I'm so glad I took her in on Monday for her puppy check so they at least have a base line with her. I love my vet and would trust her no matter what...the lady hugs you and talks to you until you calm down. When she does surgery or testings she calls you herself to check in and doesn't have the vet techs calling. I've had her call me on Saturdays and Sundays to check on my babies before. I called her office and told the receptionist what was going on and will tell Dr. D all about this went I chat with her today. I'm so beside myself right now. I've told my daughter the horror stories I've read on here with other loved ones and I thought she'd be more careful. I have only sat on the couch with Bijou as I held her for a cuddle time and to play I sit on the floor with her and Barley. She feels so bad and offered her savings to help pay for Bijou's surgery. She swears she's learned never to do something like this with a baby and all, and I've explained to her that I'm not mad but very upset, and I know accidents happen, but that was why I warned her before. She promises she's learned from this and will be a better protector of Bijou so I told her we'll have to pray hard for Bijou to make it through surgery and be ok. But I'm still so disappointed and hurt that this happened. I'm really trying to be supportive of my daughter but make sure she learns from this too. I'm I being too hard? I'm hurting for my little puppy so much. It's not fair that she's going through all this and is in so much pain. She's so little and so sweet. I just don't understand why these types of things happen to good people. I don't lie, cheat or steal. I lock those type of people up and this is the thanks God gives me for doing his dirty work in this world? How is this a fair world and why should I continue to stick my neck out for others if nothing good comes back to me? If Bijou lives through the surgery I'll have some faith again. Please, pray for my little baby. We need it right now.

| I pray that everything works out okay. Don't be too hard on your daughter. I went through something similar to this when Ellie broke her leg. My son was trying to bring her in from outside and dropped her. He felt really bad too.

| Oh no...I am so sorry but thank goodness you are her mom so you knew to rush her to the vets. Take a couple of deeeeeep breaths and turn off the thoughts. I am sure your daughter is beside herself over this and I am sure if she could do it over again she never would have had her on the couch. Big Hugs and you and Bijou and your daughter will get through this.

| I'm so sorry your baby is injured! Please don't be too hard on your daughter, it sounds like she's already learned an important lesson, and unfortunately accidents do happen.. I'll be praying for a successful surgery. Please give us an update when you can.

| Thank you all so much for being here for me! I know it was an accident and I know my daughter's hurting too which is why I'm venting to you all. She's such a great kid and we have an amazing relationship (according to those that know us) so I couldn't believe this happened with all my warnings. Can you believe my sister actually thinks I should ground my daughter for this?! I was like...why, it was an accident and I never said it was a rule or anything. See her puppy jumped off the couch in July and broke it's leg. I don't want my daughter to feel too badly, but learn from this. You know? I hope to hear something soon. Will post as soon as I hear anything. Q: I've taken off work tomorrow as well to be home with her. My daughter will be here Friday as I have appointments that I have to keep at work. How long do you all usually stay home with your baby's after such surgery? I'm off all weekend too.

| So Sorry I am so sorry for what has happened. My Lola broke her leg when she was 9 months old and has healed perfectly, she is now almost 4 years. Unfortunately bad things do happen to good people. I believe these things make you a stronger person. I am sure your daughter feels terrible enough without grounding her. Accidents happen. I am sending good wishes your way.

| So sorry..... I am so sorry you are going through all this. We all know your daughter didn't do this on purpose, and must be hurting inside. Our babies like to jump off of things, and run around. It will happen to us at some time, even tho it will break our hearts. I am a retired, so I am able to stay home with mine if something like this should happen. Praying for your baby, your daughter and you.
