You know, I'm almost certain I know where this came from. One day he got a piece of plastic that had wrapped raw meat (cellophane) and I had to dig it out of his mouth - he was INSISTENT on eating it. I thought I had gotten all of it, but I guess not. ![]() Well, if nothing else, we are going to change things seriously around here. No more table food, no more scraps, only puppy food (the vet can get us ProPlan), no more unattended wanderings in the front yard and the floors will be swept multiple times a day. We basically live outside (grass roof and no doors) so that makes tracking stuff in really easy. So, we got a good warning and will be much more vigilant in the future.

| Oh, this is SUCH good news! ![]() ![]() I'm so happy you have a vet that follows his instincts and gives a damn. I am, however, sorry you have to sweep a lot. I do so hate the housekeeping end of things..... ![]() Please post daily about Kilo's recovery and doings, okay? I have to admit, I feel an attachment to him, for some reason. Can you post some pictures of that Kilo boy?

| Thanks Debby. We just got back from a visit - he was REALLY out of it but I'm hopeful that tomorrow he'll be much better. The vet said he was able to open the intestine and remove the plastic (he showed it to me and it was a LOT) and was able to resew the intestine together instead of cutting out the part the plastic was in and reattaching. He then said he waited to see (and here I lost it, I've no idea what he said) if it irrigated? before deciding he didn't need to cut out any bad part. I really am not sure what he said but I'm guessing he made sure the part that had been holding hte plastic was ok to leave in. Kilo was trembling as I put him on my lap (he was attached to an IV) but calmed down soon enough and I just held him for a while. I think he was trembling because he wanted to say hi or respond to us because when husbandito came over to say hi he trembled for a while again. I took some more of our clothing over and removed my son's shirt from yesterday and put one of my shirts for him to lie on and then covered him with a towel. The room is A/C during the day but at night they turn it off and run a fan. Dr. Paco seems to think he should be able to come home tomorrow afternoon so we'll see how it goes. I'm guessing he'll need to wear a cone? He has a longish scar on his belly. I'm uploading some photos now, I'll see if I can edit this with a link to them. |

| I just found this thread and read the 4 pages. I was so happy reading the vet found the problem and little Kilo is on the mend. Fingers crossed for you that he gets to come home today. The pictures of him at the vet are so sad. I know you can't wait to see him all better and running around again. BTW, your pictures in the first link are just gorgeous! I swear I could look at pictures like that all day. Sending hugs to you and Kilo.

| This is wonderful...keep that good news coming, if you please. Those are great pics, Kathy. I particularly like the one where you caught him running with your boy. It really captures that Yorkie spirit, doesn't it? widdo keewo... ![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah, I'm sure a cone collar will be in order. How on earth are you going to keep him from frolicking in the bacteria? Every time one of mine has had surgery I've been a total wreck...but, everything's always been successful. It can drive you nuts trying to keep them from jumping around, though. Once they get out of the hospital they seem to instantly snap back to normal. Horrifying. ![]() Kilo will be fine...the question is, are you going to make it?

| Oh, and I just wanted to add the bill. For 3 complete days and 2 nights, the surgery, the X-rays, maybe an ultrasound (I didn't ask for nor receive an itemized bill - just the way it is done here), much medication and drugs, we will be paying $2980MN. At the current exchange rate, that is $230USD. ANy idea how that compares to the US? |

| I'm so happy the widdo one is doing so well. ![]() ![]() As for the charges...it is to guffaw. That's not much more than an annual checkup here, with shots and the usual meds. How are you going to keep Kilo quiet and inside...crate him? Do you have one of those x-pens? I don't have such a pen, but they sound wonderful for situations like this.

Those are THE BEST. Kilo is back at the vet. he was in a lot of pain this am, and while he ate and held down babyfood last night and this morning, something is wrong. Vet and I both think it is just gas, but he is keeping him there today just to be certain. I'm hoping that's all it is. He was completely back to his old self last night but this morning he was in a bad way. The good news is that poop is coming (found it during hte temperature taking) so stuff is getting through his system. And no temperature - doc says that if his intestine was leaking his temp would be around 41 an it was only 39.5.

Abdominal surgery with xray, maybe a US and hospitalization could be over $1000 easily if it was done on an emergency basis.

| Well, doc wanted to keep Kilo last night and all day today also. I was getting a little frantic with worry as his office is closed today and I was beginning to think I'd misunderstood (Spanish/English) his instructions this am to wait for his call this "afternoon". About 6:30pm "this afternoon" he called and said to come get him.I didn't talk much at all to the vet - he was in the office operating on a dog who'd been hit by a car. He sent us home with Clavaseptin, something else and the Flagyl from before. You can imagine the little guy was overjoyed to see us, ate up all his babyfood and had a good poop (no diarrhea) so it seems his digestive and excretive systems are in good working order. I'm guessing the pain he was in was related to the surgery - he still needed medication - and probably gas. He is FULL of energy and now I know what the others were talking about in trying to keep him "down". |

| Good grief...you must have been beside yourself, having to take him back like that. How has he been today? Driving you nuts trying to run around, I hope.
