I saw everything unfold on tv while I heard what was happening over their phone. I will never forget how scared they sounded. It was a horrific experience

The information they received from inside the building was terrible. Initially, they were told there was a fire and to stay where they were. Then they were told the fire was beneath them (it was actually above them) and to head up. Based on what little we were able to tell them, they decided to go down and not up. They made it out of the building, but some on their floor went up as instructed and didn't make it out.
What a horrifying "connection" you had to that day. I'm sure that you were comfort to some of those people during those first minutes though. Bless you.

I was in my office getting ready to close a deal at the World Trade Center when one of the partners walked in and said there was a fire at the World Trade Center so we should wait until we hear from the other attorneys. We later learned that it was not a fire, it was a terrorist attack.

We were in Japan so it was like 11:00 at night for us. My husband was at home and I was working on the other side of the military base we were stationed at. He called me and said "sit down". I thought he was going to tell me something bad about family or something so when he said "a plane just hit the world trade center I almost didn't believe him. He does't usually sit and watch the news but was flipping through the channels. We both thought it was an accident so I was mortified a few minutes later when he called back and told that the base is in lockdown and I needed to get home the second biulding had also been hit. My friend and I that were working together left work immediatly and what we came out to on the base was the most surreal thing I had ever seen. Within minutes there were soldiers in what looked like ninja suits riding 4 wheelers with big guns on thier back everywhere. Armed gaurds at the gates holding thier guns like they were ready at any minute to fire. We were stopped and questioned as to who we were, where we were going and told to get there ASAP without stopping. So many things changed on the base from that day that were so strange to live with but they continued there for years and that base has never gone back 100% to the way it was. I got back home and spent the next several days just glued to the TV. I remember feeling like I wish I could be home instead of in Japan and just spending alot of time praying for all the families and people involved.

Praying for them again today

I was at home with my son who was just 4 months old i was glued to the t.v in shock at what was going on. I was a relay service for my mom and all of er co-workers as they didn't have a tv and could not leave work. I was terrified not know what was going to happen next I felt so horrible for the people in the planes and in the builings and then they fell My heart dropped and i began to cry. My herat goes out to all that lost someone in this tragic disaster and to all those who survived and are still living with the trauma.

Smile Mitzi is so lucky

I love hearing that story so much ....
so romantic ...
and boy did Mitzi get lucky ....

I was in the classroom and we faced the island of manhattan ... all of a sudden we saw clouds of smoke and dust!!! turned a radio on to find out what was happening.

During this time my friend teased me and said she would find me a man on the internet. Even though I was NOT looking, we posted an ad just for fun. 2 days later I got a response and really thought my friend wrote that b/c it described exactly the kind of partner I would have wanted if I would have been seriously looking. To make a long story short, she didn't, I met the guy and one week later we got married and I'm a proud American citizen now and we live happily ever after...

BTW... he was Mitzi's dad and I thought if a single guy has such a delicate tiny dog and takes care of her all by himself he can't be all that bad...

And that's how a terrible tragedy made me the happiest woman on earth and how I became Mitzi's mom...

I was in the car with my daughter, she was driving to work and I was taking her car back home since she only had her temps at that point. We had the radio on, and they said a plane had crashed into the WTC. I told my daughter that just didn't sound right to me, and I wondered if it was on purpose.

I got home and turned on the TV, and within just a few minutes I saw the second plane. Next thing I know, they were saying the Pentagon had been hit. I called my mom on the phone and both of us were watching it on TV and both were in shock at what we were seeing/hearing. We knew our country was under a terrorist attack.

I heard a plane flying over, and I knew they had put a stop to all air traffic. I went outside and my neighbor and I watched the plane, and he said he heard there was still one in the air. I live in Ohio, and it was flying over us and ended up in PA.

I will never ever forget that day. It was such a surreal feeling that stayed with me for a long time.

I was in fourth grade.. I didn't find out until I got home.. My mom usually got home at 5 and she was home when I got home so that was wierd.. I walked into my grandparents house and my grandmothers bawling her eyes out and my mom told me.. She said something then said something along the lines of the country goign to war.. I started crying and so did my sister.. Thankfully right after it happened my grandmother got through to my uncle who lives right accross the brooklyn bridge.. my uncle happened to have been taking my youngest cousin to school that day becaus eit was her first day and they were on the promanade so was my aunt and other two cousins but they were on the other side of the promanade.. they saw both planes hit.. Thank God my uncle was late to work that day.. If you look at pictures there is a black building that is like right next to where the twin towers were and that is where he worked at the time.. That day many of my cousins friends lost one or both of their parents and my aunt and uncle lost many friends.. It never really hit me (I was only 9) until we went to go visit my uncle more than a week later and he brought us up into his office and if you looked out the window and down you saw ground zero.. It was really hard goign through school today and only twice was it actually mentioned.. Over the intercom and then in Theology class.. I think there should have been a ceremony or somethign to honor all those that died.. anyways look at this website.. the family now lives next door to one of my friends and she gave me the site.. Everytime I look it bring tears to my eyes.

Sweetie, the site you posted is just beautiful and we owe so very much to all the firefighters and others who helped people during those days.

You know I agree with you a simple program to honor those lost would have been nice. I don't think we should dwell on it but once a year it is good to talk about it to others and cry some if we want.

I would never believe you are so young, you did a beautiful job explaining your experience that day. Thanks so much and bless you. Hugs, Joan

I had just started high school a few weeks prior and things were already new and scary to me. We were taking a pre ISTEP test and all of the freshmen were in the auditorium. One of the teachers stopped the testing to break the news. We were all so shocked, angry, sad, confused, you name it. It never really sank in till I got home. I had trouble sleeping at night and was scared it would happen again. I prayed for the innocent involved. It just wasn't fair! I loved the patriotism everyone showed for weeks and months to follow. Our school had prayer services held before school for those who chose to attend and we actually started saying our pledge of alligience. Then one teacher spoke up and said that it was cutting into his class time and the school no longer led us in pledge of a morning. It was ridiculous! I think I was the only student offended by this. Of course they never listen to their students. I honor all the brave men and women who fight for us every day. My religion has given me comfort in knowing that those responsible for these terrible acts of terrorism have already received their punishment.
