| Oh my Aching Back!! I had the strangest thing happen yesterday. I was out on my screen porch and I have a small wrought iron table with a glass top. I had cleaned the top and was bent over dusting the legs of the table, no lifting involved. I just was standing up after being bent over from the waist and as I went to a vertical position something pulled in my lower back. The moment it happened I was in excruciating pain and could not stand straight. It took about 5 minutes to get into a standing position. I have been alternating heat and ice and taking ibuprofen. I am still in a lot of pain and can barely get up off the sofa without help. I cannot bend at all without severe pain. I am ok after I stand up, as long as I make no sudden moves or try to bend. Do I go to the my Dr. today as the office is open half a day for walk in patients or do I give it another day to see how it goes? I cannot believe the pain when I was not even doing any heavy lifting. Has anyone had something like this happen before? I can't believe my luck

| I have Michelle. Every once in a while it happens. I was like you, I just couldn't move and was in terrible pain. Within a day or two I was fine. But occasionally it does happen again. . I sure hope you are better soon. Back problems stink.

| Let me add something. I do think you should go to the dr. Especially if you are in that much pain still. You will probably get pain meds and inflammatory meds. But it might make the healing faster.

That happened to me about 15 years ago (I was only 40 at the time) and all I'd done was hold out my hand to help a friends child out of a chair. Agonizing, excruciating pain. I ended up in A+E, the doctor who examined me poo-poo'd me and I came home with ibuprofen. Two weeks later, my back started going into spasm... and then total paralysis from the waist down I had to be stretcher-ed by ambulance to the hospital, where I lay on my back for a MONTH not knowing if it would ever get better. A long slow process (including valium as a muscle relaxant, and many gentle exercises which I still have to do daily). It ended up being diagnosed as degenerative disc disease - basically just wear and tear. I truly am not trying to frighten you, but just PLEASE be very aware of the movements you're making and, I know it sounds mad - but try hard to RELAX. I personally would get to a doctor as soon as someone can take you, he'll probably refer you for an x-ray. I'm so sorry you're having all this on top of everything...I'll be thinking of you Sally x | |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | See your doctor today. You may have slipped a disc, or some other type of low back injury. It can happen even if you are not lifting anything. Various causes and reasons. Sure hope that all goes well. Back pain; well it is a real pain in the patooche

| Oh Michelle, so sorry this happened...I know how horrible back pain is. When I was 19, I picked up a half piece of brick and bam, the pain brought me to my knees. I ended up with a ruptured disc, it took weeks to start feeling better. I have learned to baby it through the many years later. A few years ago, I too was diagnosed degenerative disc disease. Hope, you eases up and you feel better soon.

| I've had the same thing and it's painful. I hope you get some relief soon. I did that about 25 years ago and spent a week on the couch taking muscle relaxers. This past June I moved (dragged while leaning over them) 2 large terracotta pots of shrubs from the front of my house to the back and boy did I pay for that stupidity. Another week on the couch! The cold and hot compresses are good. Also Bayer Back and Body pain aspirin is helpful. And remember- always bend from the knees! I hope you feel better soon!! |

| Oh Michelle, I'm so sorry to hear this. I think you should go to the doctor and have it checked out. I know there's nothing like back pain...I hope you feel better soon. |
