| I smoked when I was younger, and believe it or not, after many years, still get the urge. I know if I have just one, I will be back on them. You control it, not the nicotine. If you have made it 2 weeks, just take it one day at a time. Nothing wrong with an aid either. The gum or Cherry lozenge can help reduce the crazings. Make it to 10 weeks, you can say you made it, but take it a day at a time. You can do it! |

| I haven't smoked. I think my trigger is boredom and feeling bad. I got laid off and I feel bad that I am collecting unemployment and have not found a decent paying job. I made really good money and its just not out there right now. Bored, bored |

| I'm using the patch. So far so good. It's only been a few days for me. The urge is still there for sure, but I talk myself out of it. Good luck to you!!! |

| I smoked for 29 years and quit a little over 4 years ago. I LOVED smoking! I cannot stress this enough. But in '06 my doctor let me know that I needed a Mitral Valve repair and my smoking days were over. It took from June to December to finally quit, but I did it! My surgery was in March '07 and was successful in part because I quit when I did. I did it cold turkey (helped in part due to a nasty upper resp. infection and a kidney stone, of all things) and what got me thru from one craving to the next was telling myself to WAIT-just WAIT and the craving passed. This worked every time, and now I'm an avid non-smoker! You've got it in you! Just WAIT! |

| I quit cold turkey 11-19-88 but quickly got a treadmill and when I would start wanting to smoke, I would get on the thing and walk until all I wanted to do was b-r-e-a-t-h-e. The more air the better! Ha! Last thing I wanted after I got off that thing was a cigaratte! The first 3 weeks were bad but can you distract yourself by using the urge to ,instead, exercise, teach your Yorkie a new trick or anything that you quickly replace the urge to smoke with. Perhaps a diet drink or big glass of water. If you can just replace that urge with another good habit(ok, diet drink not a good habit), B4 long, the desire to smoke gets less and leaves. Alot of successful "stoppers" said they replaced the urge with something else for a while to get past the bad time. I smoked for 10 years B4 I got wise to how dirty and silly it was and - not cool. If you haven't smoked in 2 weeks, think how much better your lungs feel inside and how pink they must be getting. Last edited by yorkietalkjilly; 03-03-2011 at 03:24 PM. Reason: spelling |

| Almost 2 yrs ago next month, I went into the hospital for about a week with a severe asthma attack. A week after I got out I had a follow up with my primary care Dr. The first thing he ask me was, "would you like to live to watch your children grow up?" "If you do, you need to quit NOW!" I totally lost it. I have not had one since, and thank God no cravings for one either! Next month I will be 2 yrs smoke free!! They started me on the patch while I was in the hospital and that's all I need to quit. Good luck!

| I quit smoking last year with the help of electronic cigarettes. I still smoke them and still get the nicotine, but without the tar and tobacco and other bad carcinogens. I found some really good information online and sort of just get reading. This site was the one that pushed me over the edge: electronic cigarette reviews I don't miss the ashes, the flames, and the second hand. Anyone else have success with electronic cigarettes? |

| Well, it's been a whole week for me. So, for so good. I've been smoking since I was 17, and I'm 47. I quit while I was pregnant with my babies, but went right back to it. Why??? I can't answer that. My hasband is still smoking, but it is not bothering me for some reason. I really want him to quit. He has been smoking since he was 10, YES I said 10. I know it will be VERY, VERY hard for him. I'm hoping if he sees that I'm doing it that he will want to quit. This thread had helped alot, seeing that I'm not the only one out there, trying to quit. |

Your story is the same as mine. I never smoke while pregnant and hubby is still smoking. I am 49. I still haven't smoked but the desire is there. Its not a craving now. I just feel like I'm missing out on something I like to do but I work thru it and as of Thursday it will be 3 weeks. No cheating or anything |

| I quit in 1990. The best smoking cessation program imo is : www.smokenders.com I smoked a LOT for 24 years and that was finally the program that worked for me! I tried everything! Once I quit with them, I never looked back.
