I smoked for 29 years and quit a little over 4 years ago. I LOVED smoking! I cannot stress this enough. But in '06 my doctor let me know that I needed a Mitral Valve repair and my smoking days were over. It took from June to December to finally quit, but I did it! My surgery was in March '07 and was successful in part because I quit when I did. I did it cold turkey (helped in part due to a nasty upper resp. infection and a kidney stone, of all things) and what got me thru from one craving to the next was telling myself to WAIT-just WAIT and the craving passed. This worked every time, and now I'm an avid non-smoker! You've got it in you! Just WAIT!
