I don't know that's there's anything special about Mel... he sounds like one of the millions of men who abuse their wives, sadly. I think she probably did "entrap" him, since she deliberately taped these calls. My feeling is thank goodness she did, because he threatened her life. "She made me do it" isn't a good excuse for a five year old and it damn sure isn't an excuse for a grown man.

It's classic abuse talk. It is never the fault of the abuser. It is always the fault of the victim. You made me do it. That is one of the reasons that over time she begins to believe that she really is at fault. A woman that is not strong of mind and is totally dependent of the abuser for finances and/or has kids can fall into it real easy. If she could just get it right and not keep setting him off he wouldn't keep having to 'correct' her. It's all her fault. Usually in between rages those type of guys are absolutely the best partners, ever. Romantically, with the candlelight dinners, flowers, love, praise, etc... they not only know how to abuse, they know how to bind you to them with the good stuff. They are very very good when they are not being very very bad.

I'm upset about this! Mel has always been one of my favorite actors and biggest inspirations as a performer. but he is a LOUSY human being. and being drunk is not an excuse. Alcohol limits your inhabitions. It doesn't change who you are, it just shows who you REALLY are.

He is a bigot and a jerk. we wouldn't excuse this behavior from anyone else, why should it be excused because he's Mel Gibson? Yeah, he's absurdly talented. Talent doesn't make you a good person!

I brought up the accent because I thought Mel's Aussie twang was the real deal. Until his last film "Edge of Darkness" (not worth seeing, but he does a decent, subtle Boston accent), I didn't think he was capable of anything else.

I am beyond disappointed in this person I had just always had the impression that he was such a good guy, such a family man...wrong~

I was the same way with Mel, Kevin Costner who dumped his wife and kids and that Crocodile Dundee guy, he was married 18yrs hit it big and dumped his wife and kids for the costar. Soon as they do that, I'm done...they loose all sense of sexy
