Mel Gibson - the Mother of all Meltdowns

Alot of times the abuser will tell the abused it's their fault. Is he saying it's her fault because she doesn't love him, or he doesn't feel she loves him? No excuse Mel. There has to be more to it. I have to wonder if she doesn't help push him along from a distance, such as over the phone. That way she has proof and might get more in a settlement? The child is security that she will get money from him no matter what.

I've been thinking about his other children too bc some of this behavior (bigotry) goes wayyyy back (it's in old, old interviews). I can't imagine what his wife/daughter's self-esteem may have suffered. And does he have sons? Bc imagine their attitude toward women, with him as their role model.

Exactly! Throughout all of the tapes, he frequently says (and also alludes to) - "YOU did this to me" - "this is YOUR fault" - "YOU have betrayed me" - it's just all youyouyouyou. Nothing is ever or has ever been (it seems) Mel's fault. Classic Narcissist behavior.

I don't know if he has sons, I just know he and his ex wife have several children. None of which have ever gone public. Fear? Threat of harm or cut off money if they did? Or simply no reason to..........

Did his ex wife want that many kids or were they his idea? Would he allow her to use birth control due to his religious beliefs?

I hope his children male/female all see how wrong this is and choose a better way of life.

He has said he is Orthodox Catholic, so it always seemed to me that birth control would be out of the question for him.

Then, when he said he was getting a divorce - I wondered how he was going to reconcile that with his beliefs....?

In one of the tapes, he does say "I left my wife bc she was not on the right spiritual path...and now you too!" -- or something to that effect.

I suspect that Mel has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Not that I have much to go on, but the kind of fame and success he has achieved is very difficult to handle without massively inflating your ego, to the point where you think you are more than mortal. And the kind of rage he's expressing, seems very like a narcissistic rage.

Of the many sad things about this is that narcissism is very hard to treat. They either think they don't need help, or hate themselves so much that they believe they are beyond help. Maybe this huge amount of negative publicity and possible jail time will force him to work on himself a bit.

I believe Mel and his wife have one son who has already had a brush with the law over drugs.

Also, if I recall correctly, Gibson's drinking problems date back at least as far as his first major film role "Mutiny on the Bounty." I think he went through some sort of rehab and has been on and off the wagon many times.

He has twin sons in their late twenties...one already has a DUI under his belt and the other went to rehab for cocaine and alcohol addiction.

I was never all that crazy about Mel Gibson (ok, except for Braveheart) but I did admire his movie, Passion of the Christ. I find it hard to reconcile the beauty of that movie - with this ranting fool I'm hearing on TV lately.

You're right...money, or lack of, talks. Picketting sometimes does help because it might deter people from paying to see the movie. Years ago, Publix (grocery store) had many issues with their employees, and there were always picket lines in front of their stores. I would bypass Publix because of the picket lines; herefore, they would loose money. A lot of people did that and according to the news, Publix suffered greatly.

you are so right - the news played the latest and had to bleep out practically everything but you knew what he was saying. I've never heard a man speak like that in my life and never want to. He may need help but there's no excuse for the things he said

she may be setting him up but he's feeding right into it by being a raving lunatic and that does show a persons true colors

How sad this whole thing is. I feel for all of his children as they are the innocent ones and looks like the hate is going to live on.
