When I get home this evening I'll post some pics from one of the game cameras we have out before deer season. There are some huge hogs on there.

I love to listen to them come in from the brush, I like the squeeky little noises and I love that they are so multi-colored and pretty to look at, especially the babies.

That would be great. What part of TX are you in? The little pigmets remind me of the old Pigskin football. THey are cute when small, but they really grow out of it fast. There are some amazing colors.

Oh my, ya never know what you are going to see on Yorkie Talk. Just saw this thread and read most of it.... interesting. I had no idea of the over population of hogs in Texas and the damage they do. We should send some troops of Hawaiian boys over there; wild pig hunting is a popular sport here, but there aren't so many of them.

They cook them in an imu pit, buried in the ground wrapped in banana leaves, and then have Kalua Pork, a favorite local and luau food.

So how does the taste of wild hog differ from pork we get at the grocery store? I assume it is not as fatty, and probably not as juicy tender??

Steve, I'm in Corpus Christi. I have friends with nice places to hunt all over this great state and my husband has a place just outside of Woodsboro next to part of the Rook Ranch. You have an open invite come down anytime and help get rid of some of the hoggies, anything you don't want to eat or process can be donated to Hunters for the Hungry, there are at least 10-15 processors close to me that will help out with that program.

That's awesome that eradication of pests can turn into food.... a WIN-WIN situation for sure.

I will certainly have to take ou up on the offer. Do you use a truck of ATV's to move the hogs? I am not an avid Hog Eater unless they are under 100 pounds and you have a nice BBQ rub.

We could feed the state because as long as I have ammo and targets, I am good for a long time

It does not taste the same....it is dryer, stringy, tough, and has a wild taste. Some really like it. It is not my favorite, But, Cabella's sells it here for $16 a piund, and folks in N. Illinois buy it. The key is to only eat the meat from a smaller one, under 100 pounds. Then, the key is a slow smoke.

If I was starving, I would and could eat it!

I am the wild "Bore". The Hogs are wild Boar.

They can rip you up good with their sharp tusks and cutters. They even kick.

I have never seen one 500 pounds where I go, but sure, some could get up to that weight depending on the climate, food source, and longevity. Largest one I ever got was around 410. That was huge. Usually I go after the 250 pounders. Thats big, and they are fast, and can smell you a good distance away.

The key is shot placement, and even then, these guys just get up and shake it off.
