They cook them in an imu pit, buried in the ground wrapped in banana leaves, and then have Kalua Pork, a favorite local and luau food.
So how does the taste of wild hog differ from pork we get at the grocery store? I assume it is not as fatty, and probably not as juicy tender?? |
It does not taste the same....it is dryer, stringy, tough, and has a wild taste. Some really like it. It is not my favorite, But, Cabella's sells it here for $16 a piund, and folks in N. Illinois buy it. The key is to only eat the meat from a smaller one, under 100 pounds. Then, the key is a slow smoke.
If I was starving, I would and could eat it!
