I have never seen one 500 pounds where I go, but sure, some could get up to that weight depending on the climate, food source, and longevity. Largest one I ever got was around 410. That was huge. Usually I go after the 250 pounders. Thats big, and they are fast, and can smell you a good distance away.
The key is shot placement, and even then, these guys just get up and shake it off.
