Just read this quick, PLEASE:

One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that was going on inside himself.

He said, "My boy, the fight is between two wolves." That certainly got the boy's attention.

"One is evil," the old man continued. "Anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego."

"What of the other, grandfather?" the boy asked.

"The other is good," he said. "Joy, Peace, Love, Hope, Serenity, Humility, Kindness, Benevolence, Empathy, Generosity, Truth, Compassion and Faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Do we all have such wolves fighting inside us, grandfather?"

"Yes," the wise old man said.

"Then, which wolf wins the fight?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

The conditions that some of those dogs are in and the lives they have led. Euthanizing is the kindest thing, at least they are not suffering. There are worse things than death.

We would ll love to resuce all of the pet store puppies and puppy mill puppies, but in doing so, we are just making it so they can breed more, if there were no market for them, the breeding would stop.

It is a shame that we do not have laws against mills, but we don't, so all we can do is to encourage people not to buy from them.

USDA breeders are large commercial facilities, that run with the bare minimum of compliance to the codes. Codes that were developed for livestock, not domesticated pets. Those breeders look at their breeding stock as livestock, the get fed. That is it. Minimal care to keep them alive, food and water, nothing more and when they are too old or too sick to breed, they are killed, not euthanzed, KILLED.

Totally understand what you are saying here and explaining about if the breeding doesn't stop. I appreciate you elaborating on how you feel.

I have been called judgmental and naive. Did it upset me...oh yea! I lost sleep over it. I have 'thin skin' in general. (anyone have advice for thickening it up...pm me. LOL) My point is, I could've left YT and only had bad feelings toward this site. However, my strong desire to educate myself about the breed kept me here. It didn't hurt that I was also willing to work things out with members who I had had diagreements with either. ~Amanda

As long as the controversy doesn't become really mean and insulting, I have to say that it is one of things I like about YT. If we all thought alike it would be a pretty boring world. Plus, I've learned a lot from all the differing opinions on here.

Get into enough debates and you get tough in a hurry.

There are some people who will deliberately take and twist everything a person says. So I have even gotten to the point where sometimes I put disclaimers on my posts. stating that "I did not mean this or that, I said what I meant and meant what I said. Do not twist my words,, add to them or take from them."

Some people do get downright mean occasionally, usually when they get backed into a corner and have nothing more to say. So when someone gets mean, you can figure you have won the debate, cause they have run out of things to say so they start to attack you personally.

I understand and respect and appreciate your "rant". You absolutely have "said" things that people are thinking. As a new member doing a ton of research I have to agree with #2 in your statement. Even if age was not mentioned, it seems to be the first question asked...relative to the original question or not. So I say "BRAVO" to you.

People ask age because it IS important! And, people do need to keep hearing that 8 weeks is too young for a puppy to be sold, just like unfortunately they have to keep hearing about puppy mills and back yard breeders. Since they are still buying from these places, either they have not seen it and need to or they are living in la la land and need to hear it again anyway. And, other people who are reading these posts need to hear it as well.....even if only 1 person out of 25 takes it to heart it is worth it!

People generally DO help the person with the sick puppy or the puppy with other issues; but why do you think saying the puppy was sold too young is wrong? We are here to educate!

I think age is usually pretty relative question when dealing with health or behavior issues. The responses given would differ based on the age of the dog in most cases.
