| Donating Blood Anyone do it? I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to donate blood. My mom has been doing it as long as I can remember. I almost did in grade 13 but I had a cold and they turned me away. When I lived in the Soo you had to wait for a blood clinic to come to town but now that i live in a larger city- you can just go whenever. My only thing is i'm worried it hurts- I KNOW- i can save a life- get over the pain- but it is what is holding me back. I just know when i have to do a blood test- the longer they keep that needle in you- it burns! Anyways- i have to wait till mid april before i can donate anyways (then it will be a year since I was in the remote city of Monti Cristi in the DR teaching) and i AM AM AM going to go- i just need to know it donsn't hurt THAT bad! |

| Donate Girl!!! I donate blood whenever I can. My nephew was diagnosed with Lukemia when he was 3 and needed various blood transfusions. The pinching pain I felt whenever i donated will never compare to the pain he went through everyday going through the treatment for the cancer. Its worth every drop off blood you give to see the smile on his face one more day He is now cancer free and a big happy 9 year old boy. On a side note...I would donate my blood straight to the hospital because I heard that the red cross sells the blood to the hospitals. You will feel great after doing it, the people at the donation clinic are sweethearts.

We don't have the Red Cross here- it's called Canadian Blood Services and they just give the blood to the hospitals- no selling.

| I resently started to donate, I am O- which the blood banks are usually very low on, only 7% of Americans have this type. O- blood can be given to anyone of all blood types and the only safe blood to give in emergencies when they don't have time to see what blood type a injured person is. But only O- type people can receive O- blood. Many years ago I need a blood transfusion and the small town I lived in had no O- in stock I almost died. They had to rush it by ambulance from a town over an hour away. So I think it's so important for me with this special blood to help others knowing it can truely save lives. All blood donations are so important. What a wonderful thing for you to think about doing, it makes you feel good after. | I donate also and it's not as bad as your thinking.......I just try and focus on something else , for instance......what I'm going to fix for dinner?....who are all these other people in here?....I should have worn nicer shoes.......I bet I can squish this ball down to nothing!......I should have peed first.....etc.etc..... You'll be glad you did, it's something to feel good about.....Good luck!

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Go for it!! I used to donate but don't anymore. The hospital I donated at was much better than red cross. They would always miss and then try to adjust the needle which is a NO NO!! But after so many times I have gotten alot of scar tissue so donating really hurts. One arm the needle is the same size as my veins so I am giving it a rest. But definatly I would recommend donating. Just think of all the lives you can save! |

| I have tried to donate on several occasions but my calcuim level was too low for Red Cross. My personal physician says my calcium is fine..... I guess they just don't want my blood. |

| I used to donate back then in high school when they had the blood drive and also during my college years as well. But I haven't donated recently. If there is a blood drive nearby I would definitely donate again. It's not too painful, it just feels like a slight pinch...just don't look when their doing it.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | yea readjust is something they are absolutly not supposed to do. It means they missed and they start moving the needle around. The needle hit a nerve and sent me flying off the chair...LOL But really I have given BLOOD many a times.. It is well worth it.. Give it a try. I have only ever been tested for Iron. So if you are going around that time of the month make sure to take those iron pills. ALot of woman are anemic around that time of month and they don't even know it. |

Also don't chew gum, mints or candy when you go. I learned this the hard way, it can bring up your temperature in your mouth and I had to wait another 20 minutes before they tested me again and I was fine. Also no lotion on your hands or arms, this can also effect the drop of blood test they do before you give blood each time you go. I was turned away last time because I have a tendency to be a little anemic and my iron was too low. So I have started to take a multi-vitamin to try to help with my iron levels.
