Here when you get it done in Canada (like you are from) the blood bank volunteers usually give you a first time sticker to wear on your shirt. This makes them explain more so you are more comfortable.
Also don't chew gum, mints or candy when you go. I learned this the hard way, it can bring up your temperature in your mouth and I had to wait another 20 minutes before they tested me again and I was fine. Also no lotion on your hands or arms, this can also effect the drop of blood test they do before you give blood each time you go.
I was turned away last time because I have a tendency to be a little anemic and my iron was too low. So I have started to take a multi-vitamin to try to help with my iron levels.
