| I've noticed over the last couple years that a lot of people feel they are 'entitled' to whatever they want. They make others feel bad for having what they want, when that person who has it worked HARD for it. They have a story about how they have no money, they ruined their credit by not paying off debt or whatnot and now their life is ruined and they should be able to get 'xxx' because they want it and they get nothing else because they have no money. I'm sorry.... what??? I worked sooo hard to get where I am. I just feel that anyone with ambition and drive and good ethics/morals can get whatever they want. We all have an equal chance to get ahead. Some take on the debt of home ownership or college and make money that way, some do not. I know my BFs family thinks BF and I are 'lucky' we get paid what we do, that we can own our own homes. They are jealous. However, we both put ourselves through college, both have student loans to pay off (they do not), we both know this will help us in the long run to get the things we want. We both drove cheap cars to save $$ on gas and payments, they do not. Neither of us feel 'entitled' to anything just because we breathe, like all human beings. sooo I hear ya! I want another yorkie too, a beautiful little girl with a pink bow!!!! Any givers out there??? Oh yeah, can you deliver her to my door on Christmas day cuz thats the day I want her! HAHAHAHA Bama!

| I know your frustration. Some people are crazy - I agree with what makes them worthwhile - the way I feel - there is always someone with more than me and there is always someone with less than me. It will always be like that. If I could not afford a Yorkie, I would put a plan together on how I could like saving, etc. I would never expect anyone to give me something, but I know there are a lot of people like that. Yes, and people have to think once they are given a dog or a Yorkie - how can they afford to take care of it.

Does that make sense? If the logic is, "oh I can afford the bills b/c they are not all at one time" then why can that money not be saved a little at a time until you can afford the dog vs expecting a handout or discount? Last edited by BamaFan121s; 12-18-2008 at 11:32 AM.

A LOT of emergency vet procedures are over 1000$ ...Years ago when my husband and i were engaged...he bought a siberian husky puppy. The puppy was playing in the backyard with the neighbor's dog...well the neighbors dog dug a hole under the fence and escaped. Our siberian husky puppy followed and crossed the street and got hit by a car and broke his leg. The vet cost was over 1000$ (and that was 13 yrs ago)! Oh and the vet always want their money at the time of service!!

yes it is hard to find one when you have a price range.....when I was looking for Chino I don't really believe I actually set a limit..I might have, I'm old memory is short. I told her I would most likely go higher and of course a mother who bought christmas when we were little with the change she saved throughout the year is tight with a dollar. Matter of fact she still does that. She always gave us what we wanted so we didn't lack on her tightness of the dollar.

At any point during the dog's life..you can be faced with an unexpected illness and exceed that amount. I know because I just spent more than that amount in a 5 day period for Reese. So hopefully you will not...but you never know. I also think people tend to forget as an animal ages...there are more health issues.

And yes there are some that ARE way too much...but then again, those aren't exactly the kinds of breeders you'd want to be dealing with.

If you do some reading about different breeds of dogs, you will find that a Yorkie is one of the most expensive to own. I've had lots of different breeds and mixed breeds, and Joey is by far the most expensive. I've had to take Joey to the emergency room twice so far both times over $300.00 with of course follow up visits at his regular doctor. None of my other dogs ever had to go to the emergency room. These little dogs can go down hill rapidly, and you don't want to have to think twice about going to the emergency room. It's always so sad, when I read the sick and emergency threads and people say that they don't have enough money for a vet. Of course, some people think that the vet should offer there services for free. Steps leading to the outside had to be altered due to his small size, this was several hundered dollars. He needed steps to the couch and steps to the bed, although he can jump, Yorkies are very susceptible to Luxating Patella, and avoiding jumping is important. While other dogs need to be bathed, Yorkies need more intensive grooming since they don't shed their coats, and while this can be done at home, the supplies to do this are costly as well. The breed has a weakness for dental problems, so dental care is a must. Toothpaste and anti tartar formulas again are costly. I pay more for Joey's shampoo than I do my own, but skin care is important, and I want to use something that I know is safe. Many Yorkies have allergy problems and special diets are required, again, this again is costly. Joey's breeder said that if you need a sweater, Joey needs a sweater; most dogs have an undercoat that insulates them from the heat and cold, a Yorkies coat is more like human hair, without the double layer, and they do get chilled. So clothing is not just a frivolous thing, but often necessary. This isn't even taken into account all the fun /optional things that people enjoy doing for their yorkies. I'm not saying that Yorkies are fragile little things; I am saying that each breed is different and has special weaknesses, and strengths and you should take these under consideration when purchasing a pet.

| i can see where the OP is coming from i had a german shepherd when i was married and he was champion sired and cost us $350 ... i DO think yorkies (especially well bred yorkies from reputable breeders) are expensive but it was my personal choice to spend the money and in no way did i feel like i was entitled to one or one at a discount ... it took saving up money and making sure i had enough in case of emergencies (which has happened twice so far in a little less than a year - both emergencies due to the spay and neuter procedures)i would love to have 5-6 yorkies but i also know my financial limits and i "plan" for the worst case scenario and make sure i would be able to get all the care my little ones needed should something arise ... in other words, i make sure i would have the money if *heaven forbid* each of them had an emergency at the same time because they are my babies and my life and i would do anything i had to for them

| [QUOTE=BamaFan121s;2380428]This is EXACTLY what I mean and what happened to me to send me on this whole little rant in the first place. I talked to one of my in-laws who asked me how much Yorkies were, knowing that I have several as do my parents. I didn't realize at the time that she was asking because that was the flavor of the week and she is wanting one. I didn't think on it much and just said, "Oh, about $1000 average I guess." She was shocked and said, "Well, it must be nice to be rich. I wish I had $1000 to spend on a dog." ![]() This coming from someone always looking for a handout. And I'm thinking to myself 1) I'm not rich...I wish, and 2) I work darned hard to be able to pay for and provide for mine and WHY do you think you should be entitled to anything!? I seen the light.............I got what you are saying now also.In laws are a pain in the butt anyway. My inlaws offer me something and then puts a price tag on it when I didn't even ask for it. however when they want what i have they want it for free. Go figure. |

| Donating YT 10K Club Member | As a side note...last Thursday evening I watched 3 people in the ER clinic be denied for that credit care stuff. I'm pretty certain in one case...the animal was euthanized because they couldn't afford the expense.
