Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Yeah when I saw the girl complaining how they held her in foster care even when she told them she was 18 and and adult. Like you damn boob can you not see how wrong your living condition is. I mean I know they are somewhat brainwashed but surely she can see her forced marriage is not a good thing. God help us. What pisses me off is that now she wants to sue. Like hello they are only trying to help you..if you don't want the help then go back to your mess. But to now sue when it was about helping is down right rediculous.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I can see both sides to this argument. Here in NY we have flogged and have to keep an eye because social services gets a bit remiss on their duties. Lots of children have died because of the lax. So I think they got a call and did their best to get in and do the best to save those kids. I can see their frustration of thinking there wasn't enough proof before hand but for the most part when there is smoke there is fire. I am sure that the govt had other information on this particular group. As they say big brother is always watching. I personally think it was the right thing for them to storm in and remove those kids and sort it out later. Adults can make their own choices but if I were an ACS worker and got that call I would act now and deal with the paper work later. Too much red tape is put in to place and lots of innocents fall through the cracks because of it.

There was a group of women who wanted out...those women left voluntarily. I think the government in it's zeal to "get" something on this Jeff's group...mucked the entire thing up.

Part of the confusion there also stems from the fact of a lack of documentation. That is why they wanted the court ordered DNA testing. They said lots of children and lack of information as to their parents, DOB, etc was an issue. My thinking (again JMO) they might have felt that the girl was very young and lying about her age. I know the picture of her I saw she looked to be about 15/16 years old.

| I think the CPS workers took some of the women who looked like they could be minors because the women refused to give them any information. Apparently most of the babies born there don't even have birth certificates. It's a sad situation all the way around. I agree with V though, so much money spent putting little kids in foster care that could have been spent on the truly needy in TX. While it's repulsive what they are doing to teenaged girls, and they should have been removed, I don't think it was necessary to take ALL of the children, only those at risk of being abused. (child bearing age) All I can say is it's a big mess!

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I think that the children being put into foster care was the ONLY option. At least until they find out EXACTLY what is going on and what kinds of conditions the children are living in. I think I heard something about SEVERAL children having broken bones, either in past or present - I can't remember which it was. I'm sorry but IMO those mothers can proclaim all they want how much they love their children, but if you TRULY love your children, you DO NOT allow them to get married to a 30, 40, 50 year old man at 13 or 14 years old and have a child. And if it is forced - then LEAVE. That's all they have to do is LEAVE. I would NEVER let some man ARRANGE my daughters marriage with someone, let alone someone three or four times her age! All of these "mothers" claim they love their children so much, yet they allow this kind of nonsense to happen and it REALLY ticks me off. Sorry but they can whine and cry all they want....who I feel sorry for here, is the children. THEY don't HAVE a choice. And it's really sad.

I saw a copy of the government's documentation...of the women...and plainly beside her name...document proving age...written beside it...birth certificate. Once they saw that...she should've been released. I'm inclined to believe her...they wanted to hold her until she gave birth and seize the baby. I'll say this...were I any one of those women...after the way this situation was handled...dang if it wouldn't make me distrust the government and even less likely I'd look to them for help. I don't approve of the life style. I don't agree with it...but the government can't just trample on people. THAT is what I object to.

| Hey all........... To get a better understanding of this entire situation...... I would suggest reading the book "Stolen Innocence: My story growing up in Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs " by Elissa Wall She is now 23 yrs old...she just published this book. She was just on Larry King Live. I read this book, and I must say that it gave me a better insight into the culture of the FLDS. It was her testimony that put Warren Jeffs away in prison. It also has helped me understand most of whats going on in texas right now, and I realize how difficult this must be for the mothers and the children - but the Texas Officials are doing the RIGHT thing. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | There is an attorney that used to work with me. She used to be a part of one of these types of groups. She and her brother managed to escape from it and till this day she has massive emotional and somewhat physical problems due to it. So from hearing her story I would have done what the Children Services did.

| It's not that easy to Just walk away from that kind of situation! Where would they go, for one thing, and how would they know who would help them! I for one am glad that they got those kids out of that abusive and sexual "rape" sect. I can't imigine the terror of those kids, and marrying an older man (or any man for that matter) that was forced on me. Those mothers' need to get out of there and think of their children instead of the cult. Poligomy is against the law, and it doesn't matter what religion of lack of it you believe in! This is wrong, and I hope justice is served! Pat |
