Default House training Nightmare!!!!

I am finding it very hard to train my yorkies. My male especially will not go on his pee pad but will go anywhere in the house. I have the pee pad down and he will not go on it. When I catch him in the act I say no and pick him up right away and place him down on the pee pad and tell him to go potty he just looks at me and will not go I can wait for hours and he will not go. if I can not keep an eye on him I place him in his crate. I do not know what else to do tried the outside method and even worse does not go at all. I prefer the inside method as its easier especially when its winter and raining its so much easier as they are kept dry and no mess is brought into the home, but for the life of me I can not train them to go... they are sooo stubborn. My female goes pee on the pee pad sometimes but no poop on the pee pad. They are so hard to train. They do not know the difference between which area they can eliminate in. Poop they both do not do it at all on the pee pad. If anyone has any ideas please let me know so I can try it. I am very consistent and praise them if they do go on the pee pad which is very rare but they are still not house trained. I have them barricaded in the living room with 2 baby gates in each entrance so they do not have a lot of area to go and If I can not keep an eye on them I place them in there crates. I do not know what else I can do. They are both older dogs one is 10 months my female Angel the other just turned 1, my male Charlie so they should be already fully house trained but I have tried everything I can think of and they do not get it at all. I did buy them from the breeders already at an older age one was 9 months my male Charlie and the other was 7 months old my female Angel when I got them. Any help is appreciated I just want to have them fully house trained. Thank You

My Jimmy would not go on pads at all! He is getting a bit better at going outside or letting me know when he wants to go out but he still has a problem POOPING in the house. He can be out for a half hour then come in and poop. Not all the time but a lot of the time.

However, when he wouldn't go on the pads I tried putting newspaper on top of the pads. Come find out he likes to go on newspaper! (For pee though not poop!)

They are adorable, by the way!

I am actually going out tomorrow to purchase the artificial grass to see how my yorkies take to it. I hope it works cause I am at a dead end on trying to train them properly to go in the area designated for them. I try and try and with consistency and I give them a lot of praise but I have had no such luck. They go everywhere.... Will update on how the artificial grass works out. I have heard good and bad things about it wont know the truth if I do not try it out for myself. I am willing to try whatever it is to fully house train them. I can never allow them to have the roam of the house because they go everywhere. The are always enclosed in the livingroom with the baby gates unless I go to a different room in the home then I bring them with me but I have to watch them like a hawk.

Any help will be appreciated

Oh Yorkies are sumthin aren't they! My little girl did so well on the pads her first year and then we moved to the UK from the US and she had to stay at a friends house for months and months before we could get her situated to come over. When we got her back it was like she was never trained and I can't get her to go on her pads unless she is locked in the kitchen which has her pads just off the kitchen in the laundry room.

After daily accidents and much frustration I have decided that no matter what happens I will not let it get in the way of us just having a harmonious life here. LOL She really dislikes being locked in the kitchen and I really dislike cleaning up wee off of rented carpets. So yesterday I purchased some pants and she now wears them at all times outside of the kitchen. At regular intervals throughout the day I put her in the kitchen and stay in there with her until she goes. I give her a treat and back on with her pants. he is then able to come right back out with me, I know I will have no messes and she isn't stressed having to stay in there.

I don't know yet if it's the right answer but for now everyone is happy and the carpets are clean. I can only hope that in time it helps show her that that is the only acceptable place to use the toilet and if it doesn't and we have to use them indefinitely then so be it.

For your boy it would mean belly bands I think but that wouldn't stop him pooing so maybe more boy owners could help on that front.

I am just a firm believer in giving up not being an option so if we look silly in pants then we look silly in pants.

Oh, I did think a while back about training her to grass sod in the house since it does have a different texture to the pads and carpet since I think the feel of the pads causes them to confuse the two. I think I may move on to that now and see if that helps. Maybe we can figure it out together!

Funny thing is in there crates I have pee pads down and they go on them but I use to have a pee pad and a blanket in there crates I can no longer use the blanket as they also go on them so I have the pee pad on the whole crate floor. I am going to try the artificial grass and will see how that goes. My male is more cleaner then my female when they are in there crates. He sometimes even lifts his leg and pees half in and half out of the crate which is frustrating it seems like he does not like to sleep on or be near a messy area, where my girl is different she will do it in the pee pad in her crate. But she seems to be neater when they are loose in the home where she will hold it more but my male will let loose...LOL She will go more often then he will on the pee pad and at times I see her hold it throughout the day and only go when she is placed back in her crate on the pee pad. But they still do not get it they most of the time do it out then where they are suppose to. They stay in a wired crate. I would love them to be fully house trained so that they can sleep in my room again. They are only in there crates when I am not home or when I am not able to keep an eye on them and at night while we are a sleep. They both use to sleep in my room on there bed which they loved and I absolutely loved it as well but in the morning I would find pee and poop everywhere. When I woke up first thing I would have to do is make sure I did not step on anything...LOL

My girl goes on the pee pad in her crate but she goes everywhere on it where my male is more in certain areas in the crate. I would think they would get it as there crate has the pee pads and they use it but when loose in the home they do not even want to go on it.

If anyone else has any other ways on training that they can think of please let me know.

Thanks

stalk them and give them treats and praise whenever you see them go potty on the pads, set down 2 in a row and make sure there are quickly accessible for them, i have 2 spots set upstairs and 2 downstairs. when they potty on the floor put on mean voice and don't give attention. Meesha now makes one pee into 3 little pees on her potty just to hear YAYYYY MEESHA! and get a treat, smart eonough, lol abusing the potty treat system. but i stalked her for 2 weeks straight, she got a treat EVERYTIME she went on her potty, when i noticed her sniffing at first and not able to find the potty pad,i picked her up and placed her on it to help her out, and i always make sure one of the 2 potty pads has a pee stain on it, she smells it and thats part of why she goes there. Make sure eveywhere they've had accidents you clean it up very well, if they smell they went potty there before, they'll go there again. Meesha popped on a mat on the floor, i picked up the poop and scrubbed it, she still somehow smelled the poop smell and went potty in the same spot, here i thought i had cleaned it well, i threw the mat in the washer and she never went potty there again. just make sure the old potty stains around your house are very well cleaned, if they get a sent of they went potty there before ,they'll do it again, ii dunno thats just what i've noticed, yours could be different though, good luck

I have one yorkie and he is 5 months old and is about 98% house broken...he never would use the puppy pad, he always went beside it. I done the crate training and was about to give up because he would even use the potty in the crate no matter how small the space. When i was about to just give up i let him sleep with me since my hubby was on 3rd and he has been excellent ever since. We had to go somewhere the other day and i knew we would be gone for a while so i put him, his food, water, and a puppy pad in the bathroom. Well when i returned he had not gone potty anywhere and his pad was in the water bowl.
I groomed him yesterday and it took about 3 hours..the poor thing was so patient with me then when we went to bed he went down to my feet and peed all over the place...i guess it was payback for taking so long grooming bc he has never gone in the bed before.

Default Update on house training!!!!!

Okay, so I said I would post updates on how my yorkies are doing on house training. Like I mentioned on my other posts I was going out to buy a potty patch which is a piece of artificial grass. I have heard good and bad things about it, and one of the bad things is that it stinks a lot I have not encountered that at all because I use pee pads on the 3rd level of the potty patch so all the urine gets soaked up by the pee pad. When I first introduced it to both of them they went right to it to explore and what do I see my male lifting his leg and peeing in it I was very happy, and then my female followed. I did notice my male lift his leg twice when I was in the room with him on the corner of my ottoman which I corrected by saying no bad boy...no in a strict voice which he stopped right away and I have not seen any pee in the livingroom anywhere. They tend to stay in the living room with both entrances closed by 2 baby gates so that they do not go anywhere else in the house. So I have seen them use the potty patch a few times and I praise them and treat them right away, but something funny happened, they kinda stopped using the potty patch and actually stopped peeing or pooping in the living room. What I did notice was my girl she went to one of the gates that face the room where there crate is and she got up on her hind legs and was acting very weird so I decided to take out the gate just to see what would happen and what happened was that she went to the back room where the crate is went into the crate and she went pee. Now they normally at night stay in this crate as they use to sleep in my bedroom on there bed but every morning I would see pee and poop all over the place, so I decided to place them in a crate. How I set up the crate was in one side was were they slept and on the other side of the crate it had pee pads down and every morning I would take them out of the crate there would be pee and poop, so now I decided to take out the gates and just monitor them to see what happens and so far they go to the back room to go pee and poop, I leave the crate door open. I have not found anything anywhere which is really good. I even noticed my boy go in there to go poop but when I noticed him crouch down I started to praise him he got sooo excited that he came out of the crate half way on doing poop so the poop fell on the floor. But his intentions was to go in the crate to do his business. I guess because they are so use to going in there crate that they incorporate the crate as there potty area as thats where they go all the time during the night when they are locked up in the crate at night and when they go I guess they notice that I do not get upset with them. I have my hopes up right now and I hope it does not change. I am hoping that I can eventually take them out of the crate and allow them to sleep in my room again on there doggy bed and for them to have the roam of the house and hopefully they will get up and run to the back and go in the crate. Will let you know how things go....Thanks for all your great advice. Fingers crossed... Sorry for the big post. Will update again to let everyone know if they are fully house trained or not....
