Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Georgie RIP - questions for anyone Thank you everyone - this group is awesome. You have helped me through this more than you know. Every little while someone would write and remind me how lucky I was to have those last six years with my boy. He was attacked by two big dogs when he was six and the vet had to remove his spleen and a kidney. Every day after that was a miracle. But he was not an invalid - he was a little muscular Yorkie bruiser! He cocked his head when I talked to him, always asked me who was on the phone with a bark and learned how to spell B A T H and P I Z Z A. He had more energy than the rest of us. I loved him so much that I wanted for him to sire a pup to keep his bloodline. I bought two females but it turned out that he preferred either white curly dogs of either sex or his blanky! So my two little girls were spayed. Yorkies just weren't his thing. What a little character he was. I still really don't know what killed him - I woke up and he was coughing (not unusal - but worse than usual) he was panting heavily, but he was lethargic. I took him to the vet and she misdiagnosed it as Bronchitis. Injected him with antihistines and antibiotics and sent me on my way with a prescrip. He got worse through the day. At seven that evening he was very restless but couldn't move much. I was trying to make him comfortable. He was at my feet and stould up and suddenly collapsed - his knees totally buckled, I scooped him up and he went limp like a puppet. He was unconscious. He took a gasp and then soft pink blood started slowly to come out of his mouth and nose. He pee peed on me and this was when I think he died. When we got to the vet within minutes he had no heartbeat. Does anyone know what the blood coming out of the nose and mouth meant. I have tried Googling it but I just get too upset. I think the vet is deaf-earring my questions. Has anybody heard of this? __________________ Gillian |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | OMG, I am so sorry you had to go through this. I'm not sure what it meant either, but maybe you'll get more answers here. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. That must have been so difficult for you.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so soryy for your loss. My Pom had congestive heart failure and was doing good on meds then one day in February my dtr called me and said I better come home Maya was breathing really bad so I ran her to her vets and they took her and but her in on oxygen and meds and said they would call me in 1 1/2 hours to update me. Less than an hour went by and my vet called and said there wasn't anything they could do for her and that she had stopped breathing but restarted her heart herselfbut was unresponsive and pin fluid was coming out of her nose. I went back to the vet and she didn't recognize anything going on you could touch her eye and no response and I sae the pink blood coming out. We then let her go to the Rainbow Bridge. I think the vet said something like the pin fluid was her body was so full of fluids from the heart not working that they were leaking out. Like you Maya was ok, not in good health but ok then all of a sudden was gone. My heart goes out to you.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Congestive Heart Failure Patty, that is what I needed to hear. That sounds so much like what happened to my boy. When I Googled Congestive Heart Failure it said it usually happens to big dogs - so that threw me off - but that was the closest diagnosis I found. I think the Vet did not want to commit because she missed it in the morning. She said he was panting so hard she couldn't hear his heart because "he was nervous about being at the vets". That was one of the reasons I took him in. But, I knew in my heart he wouldn't make the day. I just jumped on her boat of wishful thinking. Thanks Patty for sharing... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Your welcome/ I also had a yorkie with it years ago. Panting is one of the things Maya constantly did. My vet said they can be fine one minute and the next the body is just overwhelmed and nothing can be done. She also would not move much and would look up, the vet said that was because it was easier for her to breathe when she held her head up.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Panting You are describing Georgie to a tee. He panted continually. Also on the day he passed he was drooling. I think you have resolved this for me and it has taken a lot of stress off of me. He did have his heart checked in summer and it was fine. I was unsure, as he was not doing well in hot weather. Thanks Again, I am bringing Georgie home (his ashes) on Thursday and will have a chance to ask more questions then.... but I still think I will get the truth here. Best, Gillian |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Yes Maya was drooling that day a lot. The way we found out Maya had it was about a year ago I took her in because she was not laying down and sleeping with her head up and as soon as I told my vet this she said CHF. Maya would have been 12 last saturday. At least we know our babies are resting in peace now.

| I'm so sorry for your loss. Georgie's 6 years with you sound like they were so very happy. He was a lucky little guy. Sleep peacefully with the arms of the Angels wrapped around you, Little One. Hugs to all.

| I am so very sorry for the loss of Georgie. It sounds like he was one remarkable little Yorkie. And smart too, to learn to spell . I am so glad that you were able to get answers to some of the questions you had regarding Georgie's last few hours. Somehow it is a consolation to know. I will promise you that in time, the raw wound left by his passing will start to heal - you will know that healing has begun when you think of him and smile through the tears..... Sending and |

| My pitty Flash who passed last Easter, had Hydrocephalus and Congestive Heart Failure. He also had blood coming from his nose and mouth when he passed, it was from his lungs being filled with fluid. The blood was a bit darker than "pink" but it was the same exact thing happening. He was having a hard time that day breathing and was wheezing and coughing here and there (not unusual) but that particular day he was acting a bit more tired than usual. Thinking back and after reading up so much on the subject, I realize he was just going through the last stages of it. It was a very sad day for our entire family.. and I do believe that this is what your little man was experiencing as it sounds very familiar. My baby was only 7.5 months and he was the light of my life.. I feel for you and understand what you are going through. I am so sorry for your loss. May you Rest in Peace Sweet Georgie Quote:

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | My Georgie Came Home Tonight I picked up my boy's ashes tonight and brought him back home to us. Thank you to everyone today who helped me walk every step. How precious our dogs are to us. Is it because we know these little characters love us ALL the time? Can people really do that? I am not sure. That little boy was happy every day of his life. He always had a smile. He could sense when I woke up in the mornings before I even opened my eyes. He would be wagging his tail (sometimes I peeked) and licking my hand. I will miss his love so much. Tonight I asked the vet what killed him. (It was a different vet - not the vet/owner who treated George and diagnosed Bronchitis that morning) - he dismissed the idea that it was CHF.... but then again that should have been caught in the morning. He had no other answers. The bottom line is - I was there - I knew him, his behavior and his health and CHF explains everything that happened. I think he was more concerned about the reputation of the practice than the truth. Gosh, I will be glad when this "anger stage" is over. |

| I am so sorry. I lost my two babies back to back six months ago. I questioned the vet's diagnosis too on my last one to go. Nothing made sense, other than my male was truly heartbroken. If it was CHF for Georgie, there was probably not much more they could have done anyway, even if they said it was bronchitis. The coughing is often a symptom of heart disease. My first one to pass had all those things going on. We took her to a very sophistocated vet hospital where she was revived, but, even with heart meds, she only lasted about 10 days in a very bad way. It was just bad, so I put her to sleep. I feel your anger and pain, but it sounds like a misdiagnosis didn't affect the final outcome. It would have come anyway. Be at peace.
