| ![]() I am going to look for the Muzzle Spray. We live in a gated community and are not allowed to fence your yard, so I am very careful walking my two girls. I always carry my cell phone & a whistle (because I don't have a loud voice & this saved me last year when a dobie ran over to me while walking my dogs)

| ![]() I think that it's important to keep your small dogs on a leash at all times. I know that you love them and want them to have the liberty they deserve, you want them to be free. But in a world where there is so much violence, even among dogs, you have to take that extra step of precaution. If you do not have one already, perhaps you can purchase retractable leashes where they will have some liberty to walk ahead yet you can stop the leash from going any further if you see a big dog nearby or coming your way. Little dogs tend to have big fearless hearts and will approach bigger dogs to defend their territory and master. My Yorkie thinks she's a Pitt Bull. If someone comes in front of our house she approaches them without second guessing herself. Do not hesitate to pick you dog up from the ground and carry it if you see a big dog nearby, even if the owner says it is friendly. I'm a strong believer that dogs can sense your fear. If you show them you're afraid, they just may try to give you a reason to remain fearful. |

| ![]() Because I have to walk 2 dogs at the same time it's so much harder when another dog approaches you. In the past i've picked one up in each arm and ran. I must look like a nutcase to onlookers, but i don't care i'd do whatever it takes to protect my dogs. I asked my vet about the dog repellant spray and she said it can actually agravate some dogs and make them more agressive. Im going to stick to public footpaths where i know there wont be any loose dogs. Its such a shame because we have some beautiful countryside in the uk. I do love all dogs but i really don't know why people choose to have dangerous breeds as pets when there are so many lovley breeds of dog to choose from. |

| ![]() It's almost a year since I lost my Sissy. She was in her own backyard on squirrel patrol when a large lab mix jumped the fence and attacked and killed her. Not only did this lab kill Sissy, but seriously mauled my Biewer, Bella. Because I rushed Bella to an excellent emergency hospital, they were able to put her back together and she is just fine now. However, she is very nervous around other dogs and will snap at them. It is against the law for dogs to be off leash or running around the neighborhood, but that didn't stop this tragedy from happening. It seems just like yesterday, and my heart still breaks when I think of my precious little girl. And, a few months later, her son Tobey, was killed by a large Rottie, when he ran over to say "hi." Tobey's parents were heartbroken, but Tobey and Sissy are playing together over the Rainbow Bridge. ![]()

| ![]() I've lost two Yorkies. They were in their own fenced back yard and a Rottweiler jumped the fence and killed them. I still miss them. This week we lost a third. We took her in for a dental and she died. I feel so responsible for it. She was a happy healthy 7 year old and she died. Her teeth really needed cleaning, but now I wish I'd not taken her in. |

| ![]() I'm so saddened to hear how many have had their yorkies or other small breeds attacked - even killed - by larger dogs. A good friend of mine has two rottweilers and both are very gentle dogs...however, both are muzzled when taken for walks and have been since they were young.....my friends theory is that nobody can KNOW for sure 100% how a dog will always react and he knows that dogs as large and powerful as his could easily harm a smaller dog, or child for that matter, and he isnt willing to take the risk. xx

| ![]() I would say be ALERT at all times.. leash or not it doesn't matter. My Mom took Bailey for a walk on a leash in her neighborhood and 2 small kids saw him and got excited and opened their front door and in a second their German Shepherd ran out, CROSSED the road and attacked Bailey all in a matter of seconds. (He was ok had some puncture wounds.) 2 neighbors saw it happen and ran out and pulled the dog off, but who knows what would have happened if they hadn't. The owner did pay the vet bill and said "we keep him in the basement, he's known to attack small animals" Nice...

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | ![]() I am sorry for your loss...and they only way to prevent it is to be aware of your surroundings...i mean you can only control your bahavior and reaction not the other owners...when i see a big dog i will tighten the leash and if needed to i will swoop them up.

| ![]() I recently stayed with my inlaws where there are lots of lovley places to walk the dogs. When i made the announcment that from now on the dogs are not allowed off the leash on walks. My father inlaw told me i was being neurotic and there was nothing to worry about, several other family members commented that i was taking away the dogs pleasure by not having them off the leash. I stuck to my guns though and took the insults. Maybe if they read some of the tragic stories on here they would shut up and except that my only priority is my dogs safety. On the last day i was ther, i was having an afternoon nap after sunday dinner and my father inlaw took the dogs out for a walk without my permission. I ws not amused and i wont be taking the dogs there anymore. Dont let anyone tell you what to do when it comes to your dogs. Never let anyone you dont 100% trust walk your dogs. Stick to your guns and if other people dont like it tough s**T. |
