You will do great in the show world....you have done so much reserach. Can I ask, just because I am curious,what made you decide on the Durrer line??

You are absolutely right Donna about the DQ, however, after speaking to a very well known judge this last weekend and it appears there maybe some more education to be done......

What most tend to forget that the standard was written with the adult yorkie in mind.

The judge was correct, because the only place that white is allowed is on the chest (less than 1" at the longest dimension). So a pup with white on it's head (even if it's only 10 hairs) should be DQd per the new ruling.

I guess anyone who shows should find out the exact meaning of the ruling before they show a black coated dog, because the way the new DQ rule reads is that all colors other than blue and tan will be DQ ... and that's pretty black and white to me :-)

Judges education needs to be done because most puppies will have the white on their head because of breaking color and the DQ was meant for adults not puppies

Thanks Tammy!! I have done a lot of research, but I still feel like I'm totally lost! lol I'm really enjoying the information of this thread!!

What made me decide on the Durrer line? Well, when I first wanted to show, somebody here told me to talk to Lorraine. (who also is a YT member). I emailed her and she told me so much about this line and that line. I would find a puppy and send her the pedigree and she would go through the lines. (What a wonderful lady!) She is in canada and has the Durrer line herself. From learning about the Durrer line from her, I decided that's where I wanted to start. I know there are many GOOD lines to choose from, but without knowing everyting about them myself, and read pedigree's, I feel like I should start out by following the knowledge of someone else. She didn't just tell me the good things about Durrer. She explained many other lines. I really didn't pull Durrer out of the hat for the line I wanted. LOL

I didn't see where YTCA's new ruling stated that the DQ was only for Adults and not puppies? Where did you read that, please?

I'm not sure if you were speaking to the same judge as I was, but the one I was speaking too stated that any pup with a sooty face would be disqualified. Now you and I know that pups take a bit to clear and those that clear too soon will most likely not hold their blue very long. So, even though the black was not even opened up to the DQ it appears the judges will be interpreting the DQ differently.

I wish they would have used the Illustrated Standard if they were going to open up the standard for change. The Illustrated Standard does a better job of explaining and leaves less room for interpretation.
