Still considering myself new to showing and breeding and only showing for 4 years and breeding for 3 there is still so much I need to learn and one thing I have learned is some show breeders get kennel blind and some are just color blind LOL. It's all in interpertation but everyone should know what the difference in black and a dark steel blue but again I call it kennel blindness. A dark steel blue and a nice silk texture if you actually see it and feel it in person you'll never forget it if you stay true to the breed and that is what you strive for. I've seen a dark steel blue and I've felt a nice silk texture and I will not forget it I may not have it in some of my dogs but I will strive for it because that is the right thing to do but structure and movement come first then the correct color and texture. At least I know which one of my show dogs have the correct color and which ones don't!! LOL Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers! | |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | ![]() I understand what your talking about kennel blind lol I am sure it is hard to admit your baby isnt of the right color but if you are really looking to improve your dog for the show right then you have to face it at sometime I suppose. Did you see where I said to click on the pics I post? it will then make them large for you and easier to see if Bella is Blue or Steel... Ive been looking around at diffeernt website and seems a lt say steel but the steel appears to be many differrent shades that or the Kennel blind kicked in lol

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | ![]() Good to know, but I think all of mine are black / tan. They are still puppies so I don't know if they will change much yet.

| ![]() I'm glad I didn't get my dogs to show. Sounds to political for me.

| ![]() I am old and jaded..too many years under my belt. Things are NOT black and white in dogs... Most show breeders DO strive for the best color possible...BUT if you talk to judges they will tell you what they do in these situations(sometimes LOL)...we had a discussion in a former thread about this...some judges will select structure over color..me too! Color is far easier to change then a structure fault..you can breed in good color in one generation..but some structure faults will haunt a breeder for many generations... There are softer, black Yorkies of excellent structure and temperment finished each year..given the choice I would opt for one over a gorgeous steel blue coat hung on a poor topline or bad bite... I had a friend who had such good color on her UK bitch, but her did not show herself well, no ring temperament, this was a super nice girl in every other area..but she only got 6 pts..I remember the day she showed against a flashy, black, soft male (BOW) and he got a 5 pt major...so there is so much more then what mets the eye... The picture appeared bigger for me and in "my opinion" you bitch would be considered a dark steel blue however, a picture can make it appear that way because of lighting. Does she look like that in person? I know some pictures I have of Radar some look lighter than he really is and darker than he is because of lighting! Take into account lighting in pictures can affect your perception ![]() ![]() Again, I hope this helps some ![]() Donna Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers | |

I will take structure over color any day myself EXCEPT showing a black dog in the ring! I may use a black bitch with great structure and movement as long as it fits the standard everywhere else with the exception of the color/coat in my breeding program. I stated all this in a previous thread the coat color/texture are just icing on the cake. I try when I show to represent our breed closest to the standard as possible. | ![]() I agree..why waste your time and money showing black... When I moved to Florida I noticed a much darker coat in the ring...black is popular, small, cuties, very different then I am used to seeing.....I questioned a few breeders who were also new here and they were showing correct and losing..it is frustrating..but I think it will change here with the influx of recent exhibitors..but IMO |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | ![]() Okay here are some others with more natural lighting no flash (i dont think) So when breeding a coat is a relatively easy fix....but structure is the hard part? I'm getting it I think lol The first was before bath...second after bath....

I want to make myself clear here LOL....Although color is important in the YTCA standard and I will strive to show and breed the correct color but structure and movement and personality are the most important thing to me and harder to develop and color and coat texture are easier to bring back into a dog. Coat can hide alot of faults as in length but color can't hide anything soooo structure and a well put together dog and a healthy dog is so important and the color is just icing on the cake!!!
