I find the same thing with Biddy and Tucker. If I try to break them up, they get worse. If I let them do their own thing (even though I hate the roughness) they usually settle down. I know they're playing. They eventually tire themsleves out. Much quicker than if I get involved. I think when I step in they think I'm playing too...

| So, if you take the pup back (has this happened?) do you have to compensate the original buyer or you just take them back? And what do you do with the puppy, resell it? Just curious if you don't minde. Hi, I don't mind at all. I have never had to do this and a large part of it is that my buyers have to go thru such a rigorous pre-placement regimen that I have a good idea where they are going. Even my older retired dogs go with that agreement. That does not mean I can go into someone's home and take the dog back. It says I will take it back IF the original buyers can no longer keep it. My buyers understand that I will work to enforce that portion and maybe at their expense..Would I approve another home that they pick-say, a family member? Only if the new owner is evaluated and found to be a proper environment for the baby. There is to be no exchange of money and that is also in the agreement...I also help place other toy breeds if the owne cannot keep it. BUT, I put a prospect in touch with the owner with me as a sort of adviser third person at NO cost..If I were to ever take a baby back, it would be treated and placed as a rescue NOT re-sold. The blue baby that I have discussed was placed both times by me for the amt. of cost of spay and the money was refunded as soon as I was notified she had been spayed.. BTW, I do not advertise so I have a very well-controlled referral list. IMO, a breeder should not breed if they do not work to do what is best for the dogs they place all their lives. Also, IMO, we should be involved in rescue in some way.. |

| I agree also that your breeder lied. When I was looking for my second yorkie I heard so many lies. I must have called like 40+ BREEDERS! Some of the lies I heard: 1. You cant come to see them this week because we will be busy taking them to the vet to get their shots. 2.We have several that weigh 12-14 oz at 10 weeks old...( trust me! a 2lb can look as tiny as a 1 lb!) 3.The mom is at the vet, 4. The father lives at a friend's house. And so many other lies. I do have a personal preference, I like the small ones . But I won't buy a yorkie just because of it's weight. There are many ,many things to ask when buying a tiny . I do agree with everyone here. If my little 3lb Cookie who is full grown now...if he gained 10 lbs I would still adore him as much as I do now. I doubt my other little one would ever gain to be 4-5 lbs. She is just so active that she needs extra calories just to maintain her 2 lbs now at 6 months old 6/29/05 . Check your contract. I have never seen any breeder guarantee a dog's weight. But if the yorkie was 2lbs at 8 weeks old .That is an indication that it will probably triple it's weight as an adult. It's just an estimate . For my experience with 2 yorkies it was pretty accurate. Triple the weight at 8 weeks or double the weight by 12 weeks. Genie |

Jumping on Lily and biting her IS a sign of love - you said she doesn't want the attention - That IS her way of getting attention - if she didn't want any she wouldn't be jumping on Lily all the time - it's so normal for them for them to do this...the only way they know how to play is to jump and bite on them. When the puppy matures - they LEARN their biting limits and play much better. From from what I saw with Cheri - when they're young they can bite kind of hard cause they don't know any better....but your Lili will put her in her place if she hurts her. Also - lots of babies don't want someone holding them all the time - they want to play....They have lots and lots of energy and your puppy sounds typical of a yorkie baby. | |

| I have told folks that they could not come because puppies have just gone to the vet. Have I lied NOPE. Did you know that when your babies stop nursing and start eating food they loose the immunity from disease that mom's milk provides. If I have had a busy week I may go to the vet on Sat. and be the LAST appt. so that my kids are not exposed to other animals that are sick or folks who want to touch them. MY VET STATES NO CONTACT WITH OUTSIDE FOLKS UNTIL 48 HOURS AFTER THEY HAVE HAD THEIR SHOT. This gives the antibodies time to start working. I breed my males to outside gals. My clients are going to sale these pupppies without dad on site. I give the client my card, a pedigree of dad and his picture. I encourage to tell their clients to call me or come and take a look at dad. Did these folks lie. Nope they were telling the truth. Wnalegria |

| AntilopaUCF, Welcome to YT. I just wanted to say that I agreed, your breeder may have lied to you. But remember noone can really determing what size the pup will be as an adult. Like everyone mentioned there are many variables. I hope that your family can see more than size and end up loving Lana as much as you do. Also have in mind that very small pups tend to be more at risk to have diseases like hypoglycemia, etc. Enjoy your pup and tried not to stress yourself so much worrying about size. You said that she doesnt seem to be a cuddler. Give her time, dont forget she still small. Love your pup, cuddle her and offer her treats, at the end you will see that Lana will love you very much. Also if her size seems to be very important to your family and you, please find Lana a great pet home. Im willing to take her, JK. Enjoy your pup. Looking forward to see pics of Little Lana. |

| Sometimes I think lay perons who do not know much about breeding may think a breeder is lying when really they are only doing what is in the best interests of the pup and not catering to every whim of the consumer. I am glad breeders can be this way and know that they can Pick the right home: for the right puppy. Every yorkie puppy finds a home! I know one breeder who is being impugned because she would not let a previous buyer looking for a second puppy come whenever she wanted to. The breeder was on a trip and she had the person taking care of the dogs while she was gone try to make rrangements for a viewing when it was best for the puppies, and the buyer became angry and now she publishes everywhere that she is not a reputable breeder. It's sad. I know a lot of breeders who only show by appointment and for lots of reasons but mostly the best interests of the dogs. I drove 5 hours yesterday to see two puppies and the breeder had me meet her at her mother's grooming shop because she had a yorkie stolen from her house. She said she had complaints from people who accused her of having a pet store, but she is just a small hobby breeder who happens to have a GROOMING STOREFRONT so she uses it to show the puppies. They were the cutest, healthiest puppies, all small, all over 12 weeks, but she has never had a low blood sugar episode with any puppy. Other people came into the shop while I was there and asked to hold the puppies and she said no, she was by appointment only. I respect that. We had a breeder on here who was concerned about meeting people at her house for similar reasons. Sometimes I think we are harder on the breeders than we have to be. Both sides just have to be smart and the buyer should never buy on impulse. As much as I wanted to take one of those adorable puppies home, I have learned the restraint necessary, and I am thinking about it. Aniother vet only shows on Wednesday evenings and another on Saturdays from 10-2, etc. |

| This my home, not a place of business. It is my hobby, not a way to earn a living. You may visit if invited. If a breeder has a boarding kennel and grooming shop open to the public is one thing...but an open door policy to look is not an option. |

| I agree with Pat. Appointments are made in the best interest of both parties. I want to be able to give you all the attention and time needed to answewr your questions. The scheduled appointmnet does that. It is my choice when you come to my home- I will try and work around your schedule but we have a schedule here also that revolves around 2 and 4 legged kids. I would hate for you to come when my hubby and son are sitting in their underwear watching a football game. OHHHH not a pretty site. I sure don't want my kids to wait on their dinner because you came without an appointment. Wnalegria Kathy |

| Donating YT 14K Club Member | I am going to try to look at this from a different angle. No breeder can guarantee size, weight, or color and should state just that. BUT, if a breeder knows their lines, knows from past litters (because they have kept in touch with the buyers) what the pups full grown size was, is it possible that this breeder indeed thought that the pup would be smaller? I've been quoted "guesstimates" on weights and the dogs I have now ended up just what the breeder had "guesstimated". I feel that it is possible that a breeder can give you a round-about-figure on the size of a yorkie, but then there are "throw-backs". My friend's male was suppose to be around 4 lbs. He's 6+ lbs now. The breeder that had him had been breeding yorkies for 30+ years and knew her line pretty well. With Collen, she was shocked that he turned out to be so big. She ended up getting a new "stock" (as she puts it) of yorkies. Collen is a throw-back. Who knows where his size came from. Same with any fault--roached back, bad bite, you could have 2 champion dogs and for whatever reason after several breedings have a pup with a fault.
