Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Who has re-done their floors, courtesy of yorkies? I swear, I might as well rip up the carpet in our Master Bedroom and the Living Room. When it comes to us against pee, we sometimes win battles - but THEY are clearly winning the war. Who has replaced their carpet w/ tile/vinyl/wood bc of their babies?

| removed carpet Hi My husband and I recently removed our carpet because we have beautiful hardwood floors. We didn't realize that Gidget would have such a hard time with the hardwood floors. She is constantly slipping and recently she had to visit the vet because she slipped and landed on her right rear leg. Fortunately she just pulled a muscle.

| There is one spot in my dining room in front of my patio door that I keep their potty pad. The potty pads have leaked so much that I believe that the pee has actually went into the cracks of the hard wood. In the morning when the sun comes throught the door and shines on the floor in that area it smells like pee.... . I am not sure what to do about it, I don't know if it will eventually go away or if I need to replace the wood in that area. I have since gotten a pee pad holder and that helps the leaking. |

| We've torn out the carpet in our bedroom, they thought it was one big peepad For now we just painted it it with concrete paint, it looks nice enough When the girls grow up more, we'll probably do hardwood. My daughter's room is the only one with carpet in it and now they've started peeing in there Can't stay mad at 'em for long though

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I love concrete floors and what they're doing w/ them these days. Do you mean you put down concrete - or that there was concrete underneath and you painted it? Or, what is concrete paint?

| We are planning to rip up the entire downstairs (carpet + laminate) and put down a wood laminate floor. Then we'll put new carpet upstairs. The nice thing is that Loki is trained and Sammy is almost trained. So I don't worry about the ruining the new carpet & floor. I DO worry about them slipping, but I hate having the carpet downstairs. It just gets so dirty! ALL of our flooring was junk to begin with and even without doggie puke stains it is nasty. It's 3 year old bottom-grade carpet. It was white and now it's gray. But they wanted SO MUCH $$ to upgrade when we built our house it's cheaper to just go to Lowes and get it replaced with Mohawk or whatever. So I can only put a little bit of blame on the dogs

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | We are in the middle of renovations and replaced all the flooring with hardwood and tiles in the kitchen. Much cleaner with the dog, cat and the kids. I would love to put down some area rugs but I have to wait. Lulu seems to think that they are only good for pottying on....aaah. She is doing much better now though. I think no matter how well you think you have cleaned carpeting you can never totally get the smell out. I think that they still can smell their messes.

| We are slowly starting to replace our carpeting with ceramic tiles and laminate flooring. It is so much better with the dogs! I agree about the area rugs, though...I had several down, but Oscar immediately decided they were pee pads. Every time I wash them, he immediately runs in there and pees on them. He thinks I wash them for him to have a nice clean place to potty!!!! I figure I will replace the rugs after Oscar is potty trained (if ever)?????!!!!

| i'm excited to see this post. we are going to remove the 10+year old (bedroom) and 5+ year old (living room) carpet and get tile, laminate wood, or hardwood. my husband is ALL about the hardwood b/c you can have it refinished for less than replacing carpet. we also think it will help with allergies to not have carpet. do your pups scratch up the flooring? that is my concern. and good to know about footing and throw rugs as pee pads!! edgar doesn't pee on the carpet, he hides in the kitchen and does it on the tile (small blessing, but still a blessing!) our lab is getting old and i think she might have some trouble standing or getting up from the floor if it's too smooth. my mom told me you can mix a bit of vinegar in with the carpet and it will help cover the smell of the urine and discourage the dog from going there again. i haven't tried it, but if he has one place he'd like to go, i'd like to keep it that way |

| We didn't choose hardwood for the floors because of the Yorkies -- my hubby has carpet dye allergies, but when we built our new home we put in ceiling to floor windows so that the kids could see out |

| I think I am going to invent pee pads made out of carpet. I will be rich and no one will ever have trouble potty training their yorkies again. Brilliant idea I think My carpet is ruined and one big pee pad also. I think when I replace it I will just cut up the pieces and sell them on Ebay for pee pads. They already come pre-scented. LOL.....Its worth a try. |
