| this weekend we decided to repaint our bedroom. the carpet in the bedrooms is over 10 years old. talk about disgusting! there was so much dirt underneath it and dust coming up from it we had to leave the room for a few minutes. i think we are going to go with hardwood. we priced it and i always thought it would be more expensive than tile, but the cost was about the same! so for all of you with HARDWOOD, not laminate, how do you clean it? i saw the bleach idea. doesn't that ruin the finish? i also told my husband we should wait to get new couches until we do the floor. then we can decide on how we want the room to look. (i'd also like to paint first to avoid all that hassle!!) great thread (and practical, too!) |

| cleaning hardwood floors For normal cleaning I use Method hardwood floor cleaner. I choose their products because my dogs will grab anything that hits the floor and I have always been fearful that they would get sick from cleaners. All of the Method products are very gentle and they smell wonderful. Since we have new one that we are trying to housebreak now, I use the Nature's Miracle whenever an accident occurs. That helps to get that urine smell out of the floors so they won't be tempted to use the same spot again. |

| The bleach is diluted, I've been using it for 3 years on brand new hardwood floors to damp mop, no problem. There is no residue, and it disinfects while cleaning. My kids think Simple Solution is an invitation to pee. I used to keep spray bottles of it ready to use, even used it in the spray/mop container when they were tiny. It's too expensive even though I bought it by the gallon, and didn't work.

| My bedroom floor was just redone a couple days ago. It was carpeted then Ellie decided she should use the bathroom on it so I tore out the carpet and lived with unfinished hardwood for a long time. We are so thankful to know a flooring guy and he gave us a couple of suggestions for flooring that is highly bleachable. We went with Vinyl Wood Planking over the old hardwood. It looks like wood but is really vinyl and is only about a dollar a square foot. The only problem with it is that it is laid with glue and it likes to lift. The flooring man came back and screwed some of it down and said if you have problems he will use construction glue but it will be very hard to ever replace then. He also mentioned another kind of flooring called VCP. It comes in tiles that you can get in all different colors (they are speckled though). If you have a major urine problem he said you can put 3 coats of janitor strength wax on top and nothing will ever get through it. I am happy with the vinyl though. It is so pretty. Well see how it takes to being peed on.

| well, the kitchen has new laminate and the LR has to have the carpet torn out as soon as we can afford it. it's really old carpet anyways, so it's no loss... no more carpet in this house! I can't even keep throw rugs down - the dogs think they are their very own special pee pads. |
