i'm excited to see this post. we are going to remove the 10+year old (bedroom) and 5+ year old (living room) carpet and get tile, laminate wood, or hardwood. my husband is ALL about the hardwood b/c you can have it refinished for less than replacing carpet. we also think it will help with allergies to not have carpet.

do your pups scratch up the flooring? that is my concern. and good to know about footing and throw rugs as pee pads!! edgar doesn't pee on the carpet, he hides in the kitchen and does it on the tile (small blessing, but still a blessing!)

our lab is getting old and i think she might have some trouble standing or getting up from the floor if it's too smooth.

my mom told me you can mix a bit of vinegar in with the carpet and it will help cover the smell of the urine and discourage the dog from going there again. i haven't tried it, but if he has one place he'd like to go, i'd like to keep it that way
