| Please do not go over and steal the dog, even if you think it's for the right reasons. If you are truly concerned I would call animal control and tell them what's going on and let the professionals do their job. Most likely if the dog has shade, food, and water though.. it will not be removed from the home...but maybe giving the family a warning is all they need to shape up. People have such differing views on animals being left outside. I myself, could never do it.. but family members believe it's better for the dog, they enjoy the stimulation, ect. But, regardless of your opinion I think calling animal control would ease your mind and you would not be getting in trouble for doing something drastic. |

| BANNED! | Perhaps you can go talk to the lady, see if she will allow you to pet sit for her when she isnt able to keep the dog inside!! I wouldnt go steal it, thats illegal not to mention how you would feel if someone stole yours. Maybe you could let her know how you feel about it being outside and can help her take better care of her dog. Maybe you can give her more information on a Yorkie's needs and care. Only after amicable communication that fails would I even suggest more drastic measures. Communication is the key to helping the yorkie and its owner. |

| I do understand your concern. But I would not steal the dog. And what would animal control really do?? What do you say? "hello, there is a dog left in the owners yard! Can you go pick it up?" But I am naive to animal control "guidelines." Hmmm. I think one of the best suggestions is to go and talk to the owners. Even if you "make up a little white lie" and maybe tell them you saw a BIG dog jumping at that little fence and you had to run over and scare the dog away! And tell the story of the other dog who killed the chi chi? You may find out a bit more about the envirement over there once you're standing at the door too....

| I think you should call Animal Control that works out of your county or city. I don't beleive that they will pick up the dog. They will come out and look at it and the situation. Since the dog is penned, they will determine if the Dog has enough water for the day and whether or not it has shelter. They will probably also look at the "fencing" and determine if it is solid enough and big enough for the dog. Once Animal Control has assessed the situation and made their recommendations, they will contact the owners and give them enough time to correct the problem(s). They will only take the dog away if they feel that the dog's health is in emanate danger.

| Hi, I'm jumping in late, but here's my idea. You could approach the owners in such a way as not to offend or accuse them of not taking care of their dog. "Hi, my name is _____ and I noticed that you have a Yorkie. I have one also and wanted to know if you'd like to have them have a playdate. I also wanted to let you know that there is a HUGE market for Yorkies right now, and they are getting stolen right and left. I happened to be home all day yesterday and noticed that your baby was outside and it just scared me to death to think that someone could steal her (him?) and I know you'd be so heartbroken." Or somethign like that Then let them know about the killer dog. While you're over there, maybe offer to help her fix the fencing so that a big dog would have a harder time getting to her dog, take a look at it and see if there's any food/water dishes or shelter of any kind. REACH OUT! Then, if nothing has changed or the woman tells you to F off, call the animal control. A Yorkie will NOT get euthanized, believe me. Someone that works there would more than likely take it home. But please don't risk jail or even just the neighbor's wrath by taking the dog.

| I have been outside for awhile keeping a eye on the baby, and will stay outside most of the day, but I am going over this afternoon and talking to her...I am just going to tell her how I feel and the dangers of leaving it alone outside here, and most of you will think this is mean, but I am going to tell her if she don't do something else while she is gone all day with the baby, I will call the manager, because the manager has asked me in the past if I have seen dogs over there and they are not suppose to have them...if they get caught they will be kick out because the goverment pays half the rent and they feel like if they can't pay all the rent they couldn't afford a dog....which at the time and now I don't care what they do...BUT I will say this, having dogs and cats, how can I sit over here knowing that dog doesn't have food or water outside, the fence isn't attached to anything so it could fall over and ANYONE could steal it very easy...and no shelter and its fixing to come thunder storms...so no I can't sit by and allow this to happen again and call myself a animal lover...I do care about the welfare of animals...

| Alright. This is just getting silly. 1. Do not steal the dog. If you do, it makes you a criminal not a rescuer. How would you feel if your dog disappeared bc someone didn't think you were being as good to your baby as you should? (I am definately not agreeing that this dogs situation is appropriate) 2. Try talking to the owner. A lot of dog negligence is ignorance and sometimes if an owner is informed or suggested in the 'right' (polite non-accusing) way it can make a difference. 3. If you feel that did nothing and the situation doesn't change please call your local SPCA, Animal Control and Sherrifs Dept. Find out about the laws and let them know about your situation and ask their opinions. If a purebred dog is brought into a humane society, animal control etc they contact purebred rescue. You can also talk to them, let them know it is you who are calling animal control and leave your info to let them know if he/she does come in you will adopt him/her. 4. Minding your own business would be wrong in a situation like this. Obviously this dog is not contained in a fence (looks like a x-pen) and left alone many hours during the day while no one is home. She is lucky that no one has stolen her already. Yorkies are a hot commodity and many are stolen to be bred to make money. But no matter what their reasoning for taking her it's still wrong. The dog is not only in danger of being stolen but is susceptible (sp is wrong I know) to attacks from stray dogs, birds of prey etc. No dog belongs outside on a permanent basis especially w/o shelter, food, water & safety. A doggy door and a secure fence is a lot different than this situation. This dog doesn't have access to enter the house when she wants to. 5. There's no need to be rude to the owner bc remember that dorky saying, "you catch more flys w/ honey rather than vinegar"? Well, it's true. To be honest, the owner is asking for trouble by leaving her dog unattended like this. She either does not truly care for the dog or is ignorant about proper care or does no realize how easily she could be taken from her. A good person would never go onto someones property and steal someone elses dog but it happens. Because there are nasty people out there dogs disappear constantly. Please don't "mind your own business" but go about it in the right way.

| How is this dog , that has only been seen outside today classified as abuse???? If it was left unattended, no food and water. That would be a different story. |

| shame we can't snap our fingers and make the dog disappear...and reappear somewhere where they can take care of it. I would never leave my dog of any kind outside when I'm not home...I just don't trust people (sad but true). I belong to a Yorkie Rescue...we would need the owners consent to take the dog away (sign a release form), the authorities would have to remove the dog for a legal reason (abuse etc). If you do speak to the owner, see if you can give her an option (yorkie rescue ) so the dog does not wind up in the pound or worse. roxanne in nc

I didn't know the little guy didn't have water or food. I totally understand that the conditions look ugly - the kind of "fence" they have up, no water, storm coming....I'm glad you are home today to help the pup and possible change what is happening over there! Talking to them is the best idea for starters....good job girlfriend
