| You mentioned that you have a fenced in Backyard and leave them water and food and also that there are a few of them. This Poor yorkie has no one with her, also is left on what looks like concrete and a cage type fence that really any big animal could get though with any force. Also there is no water or food and if it is nice and she gets hot then there is no water.

| Poor pup. Glad you gave water and no food? I agree to start with a talk to the neighbor and wonder if they would leave it inside without water or food? Why do people have an animal if they don't want to take care of it? Food, medical care, etc. They are not stuffed toys.

| In my opinion, JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION, yorkies are not for people who want to leave dogs outside. Everyone thinks that dogs have so much fun being left outside, but I think that's just owners wanting to make themselves feel better. I can't see how a dog would rather be out in the cold, than in the heated in doors, or in the heat when they could be in air conditioned home. It's different if you're (not you but in general) home and they're playing outside, but to leave them there with no options to come inside is wrong, JMHO.

You mentioned the word "Hardly" which means you must have seen them at least once! May I remind you there's always a first time for everything! Just a thought. | |

| (this is what I would like to do if I were in this situation, I would take the dog and keep him/her LOL) anyways back to reality. Try to talk to the owners if things don't change report them to the manager. It will be hard but it may be for the best good luck on whatever you decide. |

It's like leaving your car unlocked w/ the keys in it. You're just setting yourself up for trouble. People will take advantage.

I don't care how nice it is out, my babies are safe inside and play and enjoy each other (I watch them on the webcam from work). When I get home they get to enjoy the nice weather and they never have to hold themselves for even a minute because they have potty pads to go on. I just don't agree with leaving dogs outside unattended. For some reason its acceptable to leave dogs and for many of us these dogs are our family, and I would never lock my family out. No one would leave their kids outside while their gone, and I very much consider my yorkies my kids and would NEVER do anything to risk their lives.

| The problem with not only animal abuse, but also human abuse is people tell you to "mind your own business". I agree in part. I think you should first try and talk to the owners and express your concern and get a feel for what she says. My dogs are spoiled rotten but in the summer time they have the run of my whole garage along with being able to go outside if they choose. Maybe they really love the dog but had it outside for a reason? If you get bad vibes then perhaps speak to the Manager or Animal Abuse. Either way, I think it is responsible to do something, versus doing nothing. If you are uncomfortable, perhaps see if you can determine if this is happening every day. Do you know anyone else in your complex that you can ask to check it out if you are at work? Good Luck, kathy |

| Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree with vainchick. No way could I leave mine outside & mine love their yard more than anything and I have a big fence. It only takes one accident, dog attack, thief, Bird of Prey or just a plain escape to lose a small dog. Something to mention - you don't have to only worry about them digging OUT but other dogs digging IN.....my neighbors dog digs under my fence at least once a month and ends up in my yard..... at least my neighbors dog is nice but not all dogs are when it comes to yorkies I could never take a chance. I'd worry myself sick if I knew they were outside all alone all day.

And w/ English bulldogs you have to be extra careful in the heat. They will easily overheat, their tongues will swell and their throats close. And peke's have the smooshed faces so their nasal cavities are smaller and will cause difficulty breathing when out in the heat. It's sad but true. Even with shade and water it will happen. AC is the only true prevenative. Maybe a doggie door would work at your house?

| I appreciate all of your input....I left a note on the door for them about the dangers of it being left outside...I need to say something about all of this though...The dog is on a concrete pad that is 6 foot by 6 foot, no roof or overhang, no doghouse or anything it could get into, no water and the pen they used for a fence was 2 foot high so a big dog could reach over & grab it...we own 25 acres that backs up to these apartments and we have coyotes, deer and skunks (which we have a scare right now with them with rabies, its been on the news and stuff) you name it we have it, but my concern was for the heat, no water, other dogs or anything attacking it, or someone just walking by and taking it..but if it was in a fence with shelter and food and water, I wouldn't have said a word...but it wasn't, so I did leave a note, and if it doesn't help I will call the manager on her...I think this was the best for all...thanks
