Because of the snow in NYC, I looked for boots for Max. They were ridiculously expensive especially since I knew he would manage to get them off as soon as possible. The pet store sold me Pawz. They're rubber and are just like a balloon with the tie cut off, only stronger. They're disposable - he can wear them several times until they rip. There are 12 in a pack and it cost $10.99. Of course, the small is too big, but that velcro strip idea would keep them on. I like them because the snow melting chemicals can't penetrate the rubber. He didn't mind them at all. My Mom lost a poodle years ago to rock salt, so I definitely don't think it's cruel for use as protection. For fashion, if the dog doesn't mind, do what you want in my opinion. Judy

If your dog seems unhappy wearing them, it's cruel to have him wear them. I personally don't think it's cute or funny to see a dog that's uncomfortable.

But it's cold here. And it's snowy. And my dogs need exercise. If I let them out without booties, they refuse to go on walks. They lift their paws up and look miserable. And there's also salt on the roads. However, if I make them wear booties, they love walks. They don't lift up their paws. We walk for 30, 45 minutes, and they love it. It took me two solid weeks to get them to tolerate them, but they do tolerate them. And they are happy and healthier because I make them wear them.

Thanks for the info on Pawz. This looks like something easy to put on and will work without a lot of fuss from the dog.

I saw the Pawz in a pet store in Manhattan yesterday for $16.95. Don't pay too much online for them! Judy

i bought a set of shoes for my doggie during the winter so i could take him on walks. i havent gotten him used to them yet because he looks like he feels so uncomfortable in them. when i do get him to walk around in them (for maybe 5min. max) his walk looks like a mix between a daddy long legged spider and a horse=S its hilarious to watch, but for the record, i don't put his shoes on for amusement. soon after i put them on, i have to take the shoes off because he bites at it as if he wants to take them off. even after the shoes are off, i think he continues to have an irritating feeling because he sometimes bites at his paws =( now that spring is here.. they'll be put away until next winter when maybe he'll finally get used to them.
