Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I've never bought shoes for Bengi. I think dog are not fans of them. I would get some if there's snow or it's too cold, because otherwise he would freeze, but I live in Florida so I don't need them. I wouldn't buy them just for looks, unless it is only for a picture shot like somebody mention. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I bought some for Lex when he was a baby but he hated them. If the weather is bad we are in and out so he is not out for a prolonged period of time. Lulu just had her first winter and her legs are so skinny I was afraid to put them on and off on her. Honestly it's a iffy thing. You want to help them and not cause damage but honestly I am not sure how anyone elses dogs are but mine can't wait to get outside. So putting on and taking off shoes are way too long of a process for us.

| I have boots/shoes for my two dogs. I use them when I take them hiking where their mights be sharps stones, thorns, and sticks. I also use them in the winter when the roads are salted because the salt is an irritate to their foot pads. I don't think they are cruel and would not use them if they were. I would hate for their feet to be injuried when I could have prevented it. |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I do not put shoes on my dogs. They cannot walk well in them and I think it's mean to torture them and make them miserable. Maybe they are for some, but not for us

| I don't think it's torture if your dogs don't mind them. I know some peoples dogs don't like to wear clothes or shows but mine really love too. When I get out Jaden or Jewelina's clothes they will start dancing around and sometimes Jewelina will even get into her clothes and bring me something like "Mommy, I'm naked!! Put some clothes on me! " They both walk great in their shoes, it's like they don't even have "shoes" on. We go for long walks everyday and I find that the rocks really makes their pads rough (our trails are made up of these little compacted rocks and some are really sharp) and Jewelina wants to get out there and run so much, sometimes she'll even scrape hers up if she doesn't have shoes on so we almost always wear shoes when we are outside, unless we are at the beach, because the sand is nice and soft or a really nice and smooth sidewalk or soft grass Inside, they run around barefoot, unless we're taking pictures or going somewhere special. I think it's a personal decision for each person, but most importanly for your dog too. I say if they don't like them and can't walk well in them don't make them wear them |

| I tried to put shoes on them in the winter when the ground is freezing but they just kick them off. Remember how Paris Hilton always had little shoes on Tinkerbell? I saw Paris on Leno once with her dogs and Tinkerbell limped really badly on her back feet. Paris made the comment that she has always been that way. I just wondered if the shoes were too tight and cut off circulation or something.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | My .02: The type and purpose of the shoe makes a difference in my opinion. If you just want to put cute shoes on your pup for a picture or two or a trip outside to potty, I think anything is fine, the cuter the better. But for prolonged or athletic use, I use the least-intrusive shoe (we call 'em "booties" up here ) I can find. Nothing with support of any kind. Just a sack of fleece or nylon or leather, etc., to keep the pad warm and protect it from the nasty stuff on the ground. I own some heavily supported leather and rubber shoes on my guys, and they walk differently in them than they do fleece booties. You can tell they are not comfortable on long walks. I'm a little afraid that the extra support around the ankle could create a pivot point that could lead to a dog twisting its ankle when running. I speak on no authority here because I've never seen that happen.

| I don't think shoes are cruel by any means. They're a protection from hot pavement, snow (and salt thrown down on top of snow -- that stuff can really burn the pads of their feet), rocks and other environmental conditions. I think it's wrong for someone to call people "crazy" and "pathetic" for allowing their dogs to wear shoes. It is up to each dog owners descretion. As long as the dog can walk in them and doesn't mind wearing them, I see no reason why they shouldn't.

LUV my 3 Furrs & Alex Donating Member | Thanks for all the answers...they have meant a lot. At the minute mine don't like wearing shoes but in cold weather I don't think i'll have a problem with them wearing it for protection.

| Not cruel. but I have to admit some look pretty funny. However, in parts of the country where it gets extremely cold or the street or ground is too hot for their tender paw pads I'd put them on my babies (making sure they were a good fit) and laugh all the way down the street. But that's just me. |
