My Mom lost a poodle years ago to rock salt, so I definitely don't think it's cruel for use as protection. For fashion, if the dog doesn't mind, do what you want in my opinion.

Thanks for the info on Pawz. This looks like something easy to put on and will work without a lot of fuss from the dog.
