| ![]() It can really go both ways. I know if I called about a yorkie baby, and they wanted to meet me at McDonalds, first thing that'd hit my brain was "that lady stole those dogs" or"they run a puppy mill, and they don't want me to see it". But if you run a business, you need to conduct it like a business. Meaning, how many businesses have you been in lately withOUT survelence? Many have more than 2 camera's too, especially gas stations. Even Walmart has them coming, going, at registers, and all over the store. Most places have 2 or more camera's. But they aren't any good if they get shot out, so please place them in a place where they can't be seen. Ok, I watch too much CSI, and other crime shows, lol. If I went to look at a dog, I'd expect the owners to be "very cautious", to me thats normal. My breeder had my email address and home phone number before I even left the house. Had she asked for my mothers maiden name, I'd given it to her. Trust between sellers and buyers is a 2 way street. Use all the caution you can in selling. But please don't make every buyer feel as if you think "they are a criminal" cause we aren't all criminals. Just a few are, and they are the ones that get the press and media coverage. I still give that lady that had video of the thieves, a high 5!! But 3 spots would be better. A car tag might have been faster in catching them. You have bushes and trees? Use them too! If you can put christmas lights in it....you can put a camera in it too. I really hate this has scared so many breeders. From what I understand, hooking up survelece cameras isn't that difficult. And putting someones faces, clothes, car and tag # on the news....really gets the theives fast! Please be "cautious" selling, but please also remember we aren't all criminals. |

| ![]() I'm not sure what I would do in my case. I live in a somewhat smaller city, but still big enough to have crime. I dont know if something like this would happen in my city, but I still wouldnt want to think it wouldnt happen and be niave. But I think I'll have to agree with not wanting people in my home to look at a pup. But if someone told me that, I would also think "why don't they want me to see how they raised the pups?" I think the video camera was a great purchase for that family. If it wasnt for that, I don't think they would have gotten those dogs back. The breeder where I got Elle at, had a truck driver come and look at a pup, and layed a check down for the payment. As the breeder wasn't looking, he stole the check back and left with the puppy. My breeder called the police and the caught him down the road....it just kills me what people try and get away with anymore. They went from stealing stereos and t.v.s now to live animals... how sad is that?

| ![]() I have a book with all my papers along with a picture of each dog that I take with me. I never let anyone come to my house anymore. My husband is the manager of an O'Reilley's store, so I always meet them there with the puppies. I have lots of protection there cause they all know me! ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() i have one last thing to say on this. As far as meeting people somewhere that's the best way to do it. having said that, demands to bring the parents is a headache. upsetting them and taking them usually on long rises to meet people. i can understand people want ing to see parents and where they are raised but if they don't trust me enough to be honest about the parents and don't trust the pictures I send, they don't need to purchase my pup. Why would I want to sell to someone that doesn't trust me as a breedewr/ When i put my pictures on here or on my website, the environment they are raised in is very obvious as are the looks and size of the parents. I have someone coming in a week or two and this will be the last person that comes to my house and this one really isn't necessary because there are no female pups to chose from. i only have one female for sale so it's her or nothing but she wants to see everyone I guess and that is fine . |

| ![]() Sugarsmom I can understand where you are coming from that you have to be cautious and that buyers should just trust you. The only problem is some breeders lie abbout the weights of the parents. I know my next one I want a smaller yorkie and I want to see the parents to be insured that the yorkie I am buying is going to be on the smaller side. I feel sory for breeders but really feel this hurts the discrimative puppy buyer.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | ![]() I'm thinking the best scenorial now for me is to sell my pups to only YT members! That way at least they know how I raise my pups, I can get to know them from their posts, and providing I feel comfortable with shipping, I wouldn't have to worry about being held at gun point by a person in my own home. I'm hoping I never have to advertise in a newspaper. So far I have never had to. You never know who is going to call you! |

| ![]() When people call me about things I have 4sale, I write their number down & will look it up on anywho.com & check the name & address to make sure it matches, actually you should call the number & just say you are confirming you have the right address. I also think its more likely a woman would call, I guess because I wear the pants here & especially w/a puppy because my husband wouldnt know what to ask or say, he doesnt want to carry it in a cute bag & if the guy is buying it for a gift he will most likely bring the girlfriend, if its a surprise gift they will bring mom or sis. If you cant drive it or shoot it they will need a womans help. On the tape it looks like they just open the door w/o looking. If it were two men standing there & I looked I would probably hesitate on letting them in. Of coarse there was a man who made a appointment to see jack russel pups, in her ad there was a pic of the pregnant owner(human), they wanted her baby not the dog. They cut the baby out of her ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() The baby.... that happened about 15 min. from my house. It was horrible.... Beyond tragic. Thank God they found the baby. However, the dogs were just a ploy to get to know the woman so she could take her baby. Built up a friendship with her, knew her due date, everything. When she came to the house, they had a meeting planned, so she wasn't afraid. She was home alone because she "knew" this buyer. That being said, I have 5 children. We live in the country. If someone shows up here unannounced, they will be looking down the barrel of a shotgun. And no, I'm not joking. Unless they have very valid reasons for being here. I'm not going to take chances any more. Neither is my dh. We've discussed this at length. Nobody will be allowed a visit unless he is here. We will not meet anybody unless he is there. We just have to for OUR protection. And, I am so sorry, but I can't remember your name... whoever it was that posted that she has the security cameras and all... I say SMART MOVE!!!! We will be doing the same. Not just because of my dogs, but for our own well being.
