| I'm sorry, I'm confused...are you looking for approval or alternatives for future behavior?

| i understand when you are angry hitting can happen easily. i don't agree with hitting animals or people. maybe next time try using a stern voice and if you need something physical try a paper towel roll or water bottle. i had problems with romeo this weekend being mean to a little dog who was our guest. i felt like smacking him , but i resisted. another y/t member suggested a paper towel roll or water bottle. yorkies are just so small. they can injure easily. |

| sometimes offering an alternative works--if they have something you want ,offer a toy they like to play with, a kibble of treat for dropping it etc. Don't get into a tug of war. A loud growl--Nah! for biting usually works with young pups. How old is the dog? Hitting will just make him afraid of you.

He doesn't know what he's doing, you don't know what your doing. What kind of dog are you going to end up with? There are much better alternatives, educate yourself.

| I hope it is someone just looking to start drama! If you really hit your yorkie, shame on you! Except for a little biting, that yorkie is defenseless against you. He looks to you for love and acceptance and should be made to feel secure with you, rather than fear you.

| vincentnyc- I've read your other posts and your methods have always seemed a little harsh, you always talk about letting them know who is boss by yelling real loud etc... I think you need to learn more about positive reinforcement and constructive training methods. Your puppy is 3 months old right? They will often get things in their mouth that they're not supposed to have and hitting a 3 month old (or any age yorkie for that matter) is not acceptable, you will traumatize the dog and make it afraid of you and anyone for that matter. Do you want a happy, well trained, well adjusted dog that loves you and is happy to see you or one that cowers when you come around? To be honest I don't think a yorkie is the right dog for you if you can't control your temper enough to responsibly train your puppy.

| Do you really even have a dog or do you just like to hang out here and start trouble because you're bored? If you really do have a dog I have to say I think the dog would be much better off if you would give it to a rescue group, they would find it a good home. Why would you want a dog if you're just going to mistreat it?

If you really do have a puppy, when I wrote educate yourself I did not mean that in a negative way. You're already having issues so your methods are not working. Dogs learn much better with positive reinforcement. You will have a better behaved and much happier dog in the long run.

| VincentNYC -- You're not going to visit this forum and say that you hit your dog and have very many friends..... I can't imagine what the big deal is with a little Yorkie having something in it's mouth that you don't want there. There are so many ways to remove something from a Yorkies mouth rather than resorting to hitting it. Personally, although granted - sometimes it's hard to do, I can usually open my Yorkie's mouth and remove whatever he has. Not that it makes a bit of difference, but it seems even especially cruel for a "man" to be hitting a little Yorkie. Soft taps on the little behind (that don't hurt) and a stern voice are all the most that any of us ever resort to...and we hate even having to do this. I agree - you shouldn't have a little Yorkie. Why do you have such a tiny, gentle little dog? It's true - they can be "tough tenacious little terriers" at times. Thank God - they don't have much as far as size going for them. But, why ever take advantage of your size to be cruel to an animal. I don't need to say much - the rest of the people on YT - will certainly do it for me. Carol Jean |

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | As far as I am concerned NO dog should ever be hit, regardless if it is small are large, regardless of what breed it is. My opinion is that anyone wanting to get any dog first of all should learn PATIENCE, I often think there should be a training class just for humans. I have witnessed too many people getting a dog and not knowing how to treat one properly. I hope that you realize the harm you could have inflicted upon your yorkie, I feel sorry for it. Please have more patience and be more deserving of this precious one you have taken into your home and life, if you can't then please place it where it will be appreciated and not abused. Hitting a dog is IMO abuse. Patti |
