Exclamation I know, but that takes LONGER!

lol I like fighting fire w/ fire in cases like this. If a manager (one step in this chain of command you mention) is going to behave this way, what's to say their co-worker won't do the same? I can tell you right now that if she deals w/ that store directly, NOTHING will get done. I guarantee it.
I think that at the very least she should go see if it's posted on the doors that dogs aren't allowed. If it's NOT posted, cause a stink. If it is posted, then it's on you for not looking and leave it be, or call and complain to a formal line about the mistreatment, despite your mistake.

That's just me!

You could still call the corporate office and complain because (even though there's no dogs sign posted), the manager did NOT have to use force. He could have hurt you and he violated your personal space. I would definitely call. If you do, I bet he'll get into some sort of trouble.

Some day you'll learn..... Every time you take your "dog" into a public place, there is a chance you may be asked to leave. Most public buildings do not allow animals. However, like driving under the influence --- you can get away with it over and over again - simply because there isn't a person around who is going to enforce that rule. Until - eventually - when you do get caught. I know that often even employees will make a big fuss over your dog and tell you how cute it is. These employees either don't know about the store policy (which is ridiculous), or they don't care to enforce it.

I agree that the person who marched you to the door was a little too much. It could have been handle so much better. And, I wouldn't be happy being treated the way he treated you either. Maybe you got a bad guy on a bad day -- who knows!! He deserves to have a complaint filed against him. I sure the store wouldn't be happy with the way he treated you.

Comparing children with dogs is not a logical analogy at all. People are customers - people with children are customers - people are allowed in stores -- dogs are not allowed.

And the size of dogs can't be a consideration either. Either dogs are allowed or they're not.

I knew when you said "Humiliated at Target" -- what your story was going to be. But, again, I do agree that the person who asked you to leave didn't handle the situation very well at all.

I think the bottom line is that "a rule is a rule," and if you choose not to follow it, you're putting yourself in a position where you may be asked to leave.

Sorry about your experience!

Just because you had a dog and you might or did break the rules it did not give him the right to grab you by the arm... Assault or bodily harm.... verbal harassment... etc... the list goes on.... maybe nothing might happen, but your voice was heard & he might get repremanded or possibly think twice before allowing it to happen again.. IN FACT.. you might even be the one who makes the change that stupid policy on NO PETS.... who knows.. worth a try, don't ya think!

Wow Val...We would have Posted Bail for ya girl.

The Security Guard sounded like he was on a slight power trip. I'm sorry you were treated so badly but I think these days - he may have been just covering himself - there are some real kooks out there that get violent for no reason - and maybe....just maybe... he wasn't taking any chances ?

I know it was awful and I really feel bad hearing how he treated you but I have a feeling it's hopeless to try to do anything about it but make a call and let them know how he made you feel. You WERE cooperating - that counts for alot.

How could they do that to Our Sully ? I know if I were a Security Guard I'd be sneakin him treats !

I realize that every time I take Sully with me to run my errands, there's a chance I'll get asked to leave. I know this full well, and that's ok. I know Wal-Mart is very strict with their policy, so I never take him on errands when they include Wal-Mart, etc.

I was not aware that Target did not allow pets, but I was not surprised when I was asked to leave. In fact, I immediately shrugged it off, put on my shoes and politely headed out.

My whole post was complaining about HOW I WAS TREATED by the manager, not at all that I got asked to leave. That was already taken into consideration when I left my house with Sully to begin with.

I am not humiliated by being asked to leave. I understand that "no dogs" means no dogs big or small, I don't need to "learn" this lesson. All I'm saying is that the way I was treated was rude and uncalled for.

To everyone else - thanks so much for your advice and encouragement! I will definitely be filing a complaint and you bet I'll be keeping you posted! Even if nothing happens, you guys are right, his behavior needs to be reported.

Granted he should have never touched you BUT... We kinda open ourselves up to this kind of treatment when we keep pushing it. Any store that has food does not allow dogs of any kind unless they are service dogs. I would love to take Diesel everywhere with me. I don't think it is really fair to others to take them places were dogs aren't allowed. Some people are allergic to dogs. Some are even allergic to Yorkies. I don't think you would have a case to be honest. You might complain and say I didn't know.. but unless you were physically hurt and have proof I don't see them doing anything. I mean lets be real here.. If we thought it was really ok to take our babies in certain places we wouldn't be "sneaking" them in. Sorry you were treated so badly.

You can't lay a finger on a customer! You can't brush a shoulder against them! rub your knee on them... NOTHING!!! You can't touch them!!! its one of two things!!! Assault or sexual assault!

That Manager was way out of line!!! And whats with the Terminator attitude? Yikes!!! A simple "Mam, you can't have your dog in here, sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to leave" would do!

Yes, call corp. and tell them that you want resolution. and let them know that if it is not handled to your satisfaction that your next step is to file criminal charges against the manager... and a lawsuit against the Target for being assaulted by one of their employees in their store outside of one of their dressing rooms. And that your lawyer will call a press conference tomorrow if this is not resolved today!

Stress that you would really like to just resolve the matter and move on, but that you will not be ignored... that this must be addressed in a timely manor.

He he he..... I saw that on TV once!

that's TERRIBLE and riduculous!!! I am so sorry you had to go through that. I think the lil' target man took his job a little to seriously. I was treated very bad at Sam's Club when Sebi was only a few months.

i would file a complaint that you understand if you don't want dogs in the store although the pup was well confined, but you did not appreciate being treated like a common criminal over a lil' dog.

good luck!!

No doubt, taking you dog into a store poses the possibility that you will get asked to leave. However, I don’t believe that’s the point of this post. The way in which this situation was handled is what caused such upset.

The problem is not as cut and dry as “a rule is a rule” either. I’m not sure if Target knows where they stand. I have taken my dog into my local Target with no problems at all, others have been told to leave. If they have a policy in place then maybe they should follow it at all times, as not to confuse customers of what their policies are.
