| My new puppy!! I got my puppy a few weeks ago and she is only 2 months. She is so tiny and cute but I don't exactly know about little dogs to much. My pets have always been larger animals such as pitbulls or staffordshires and I really am not sure if she should be eating so much or having so much freedom throughout the house. She has quite an appatite and I'm not sure if that is normal. I feed her 2 handful size bowls aday(my hands are quite small) but she doesn't eat it all at once, like all my dogs she picks and goes back and forth. Should I allow her to have the freedom that I would give a big dog or should I limit it now because she is small? Should I feed her more then 2 small bowls of dog food aday? Oh yea and the big question how do I train her to not have accidents on the rug and keep it on the wee wee pad?! I hope someone who is a yorkie lover can help me out with these little questions. I must say we have been come great friends in a few weeks I love her and she has become a great companion and is so smart at such a young age, she sits and lays down at command. Hope to hear some answers soon. Thanx! |

| I would advise you to get an ex pen, put a wee pad in it and keep her in there except for when you are able to watch her. She is too young and small to have that much freedom. She could get stepped on plus it's easier to wee pad train them if you limit her area for now. keep her food, bed and water in there too. (and don't have a collar on her when she is in there) You can feed her 3 times a day at this age or just free feed her. Give her a total of the max amount it says on the back of the bag for her weight. She is VERY young, I didn't get my pup until she was 3 months old. good luck and welcome |

| Well you came to the right place for your questions and welcome to YT! I am not a Yorkie expert by any means but this is what I have done. As far as eating Georgie has access to food 24/7, I free feed him so he can eat whenever he wants since he isn't like a big dog and doesn't eat much at once. Smaller dogs don't have much reserve so I always want to make sure he has food if he wants it. As far as giving too much freedom I honestly have never (except for 30 minutes the first night he came home) put him in a crate. Not that I have a problem with crate training I just work from home when I want and can keep an eye on him. As far as the wee wee pads I think it's like any other dog trial and error. The more effort you put into it the more your baby will get used to using them. Also rewards for doing so help as well. Best of luck and again welcome I am sure others that have more than 1 Yorkie or a ton of experience will be able to give you more info. as well

| My New Puppy! Thank You for you replies, I knew it would be best to have her in a smaller area to train her to go on the wee pad. What exactly is a "ex pen" though I have read it in a few of these post and I still don't know what it is, unless it is one of those little gated round areas that I have seen. Kinda like the one the rugrats are in. She is so energetic and playful that I do feel bad when I have to leave her in one place. What about when I take her out with me, should she have a harness instead of those leashes that go around her neck? What about if I were to bring her in those little doggy bags are those comfy will she start screaming to get out? How do they get used to those bags if I have to travel with her? LOL So many questions with little doggys. She enjoys her tummy rubs that is how we got threw her first little bath. Is it nessacery to file the dogs nails cuz I used to file my big dogs nails. I don't want her to keep getting caught on things because of her nails. okie dokie Thanx again for answering all my other questions hope u guys have fun with these!!! |

| I don't blame having questions I am on here constantly to get answers for mine. I bought a dog carrier for George when I knew I was getting him, and he absolutely hates it. My neice has a Yorkie Oliver who is 2 and he loves his carrier (she actually takes mine and uses it too). George starts to shiver everytime I try to put him in there. I read on here some people's Yorkies love their carrier and love to wear clothes.....that is not George at all. I would recommend trying to get her used to the carrier honestly I wish that I had done that, I just feel so guilty making him get in there when he doesn't want too. Also, I have a harness for him they are just so small and I would never want to put something around his neck that could hurt him. I got my harness from Target and we are working on him getting used to that. Oh and I am not sure what an ex pen is I am so bad about making him stay in one place as you can see he is very very spoiled! Good luck and feel free to ask anymore questions. Knowledge is Power

| At 8 weeks I was still feeding mine moistened (soft) food three times a day and leaving dry food down at all times. My boy is a year now and he is eating only dry dog food that is available at all times. Dogs usually don't overeat dry dog food. It's all the table scraps they eat when they are really not hungry that make them fat! |
