| Mite dip Chachi has an excessive amount of mites so he has to go to the vet every 10 days for 6 times to be dipped ina a solution that kills them. The person that puts this on puts on a gas mask and is covered in a suit and gloves. The vet said it is very bad for a human to get any of this on them. He said all dogs have mites but when a dogs immune system gets down their body cant naturally take care of them and the reproduce excessively then you have a problem. Has anyone else ever have to do this. He is getting to where he hates going to the vets. We are just hoping this will help with his skin problems.

1- Paramite, use 1/2 ounce per gallon of water. put drop of mineral oil in each eye to keep from burning the eyes in case it gets into them. Sponge until puppy wet throughly. Allow puppy to dry with Paramite on it. Use every 7 days. Wear Gloves when doing this procedure. Paramite is for Dogs only. Do Not Use on Dogs less than 12 weeks. 2-LymeDyp, is a scented lime sulfur concentrate dip. 4 ounces per gallon of water. can be used on dogs and cats. Put mineral oil in eyes. same insturctions as when using Paramite.

| Oh poor Chachi. Did he get sick and his immunity drop? Awww, the sweet little fellow, I just feel so bad for him. I've never had one that had the mites, but I did work at a vet when I was younger. I worked in the back alot and I had to give 2 german shepards a dip every week. It did stink and they seemed to be very sad when they would walk in each week cause they knew what was coming. This went on for like 2 months I think. They had it really bad too. They had bald spots and were getting some crusty spots. It did clear up though. I was so glad, because it sucked having to put them through it every week, not to mention myself! I wasn't ever required to wear a mask. hmmmm, guess that vet didn't bother to inform me I should. Well, I hope Chachi clears up soon. I know it's a pain in the butt to have to keep dipping him. We actually poured it over the shepards and they had to stand there for a while before we took them out and patted them down. I do remember having to wear gloves; it would irritate my arms if I got it on me. Good luck, |

| That kind of treatment, IMO, sounds HORRIBLE! I will NOT use anything on my baby that I wont use on myself, including flea/insect repellants. Have you talked about alternatives?!? Maybe a holistic Vet?

| I had a Shih-tzu that had mites....I think they even called it demodex mange or something. The dips are horrible and I don't know why it keeps from hurting them. I remember, some dip got in his ear and had caused a bad infection...vet took care of at no charge (of course). I heard it was dangerous if it got in their eyes, month, etc. I remember, we tried numerous shampoos, lotions, etc.....My little guy never had hair loss though, which I thought would be mange....anyway, all doggies do have mites and I thought certain mites were passed from their mother to them through milk or something......anyway, I know what you are going through and I feel for you. Our little guy didn't live long (had lots of health issues). Good luck and I hope things work out for you and your little one!

| I had a young German Shepherd female that got Demodectic mange. I had been traveling and my husband waited for me to get home to have her looked at. I was so annoyed. The vet kept her overnight and did a dip, then wanted to give her Ivermecten shots, which were quite expencive. I asked him if he had ever tried Ivermectin topically , and he told me that he had not, but it was worth a try. I told him to give me a few days a lets see how it worked. If she got worse or had a reaction I could bring her right back. He told me that the Ivermectin could not be as bad as the dip on her skin. Well, that is what we did and she got better very quickly. When I took her in for a check up a few days later, my vet was amazed. I just put the stuff on like a cream on the affected areas, and the places healed and the hair grew back. It was a miracle. I get so mad when I see on tv about animals affected with Demodec that have to be put to sleep. Tessa was really bad when I started and she got better. Demodec can be caused by stress, I was told, so although she was supposed to be a show dog and later bred, we decided to have her spayed and just love her. In fact she is right here watching me type at the moment. She was just trying to ignore Lucy, my Yorkie, that was trying to get her to play. She is an old lady now and Lucy is a little pest. Lucy decided to go chase the cat, LOL |

| Did they say what type of mite Chaci has??? I am dealing with Demodectic mange myself right now that has broke my heart... This was my show girl... now we are done... I will treat her and then she will have to be spay... Every dog from my understanding carries this mite but it only certain ones have a reaction to the mite itself. This usually happens in a hormonal change. And it is heredity... I wish Chaci a speedy recovery...

He was finally put to sleep...the poor baby....he never had a chance. The vet also told me that was passed from his mother and that he knew the breeder (which the breeder said she had bought him to breed, so it wasn't hers). Anyway, I only paid $175 for the guy and I got $75 back because I had taken him to the vet that day, but I wanted to keep him because I thought I could help him....anyways, he had two good years in a loving home where he roamed free (not caged all day) and had the best medical care I could give him. I too had him neutered and such.....I think in the time (I can't remember how many months old he was when we got him, but it was older) we had him, we spent over $2500 on him......I do not regret one minute of it! After he was gone, we threw away all of his bedding, toys, etc....I didn't know if it could be passed on (didn't have any other pets at the time) and we have sinced moved. I don't remember if it is contagious or not. I didn't want to take chances then. Mites can be a serious problem....I hate to see furbabies go through this...I know what you all are going through and I truly feel for you. You all and your furbabies are in my thoughts and prayers.

so sorry to hear that. I have heard that mange can even be spread to us. My friend that I used to work with at the vet still works in veterinary care to this day. She was treating a little chi that had it. She got it on her arm and had to be treated herself. There are two types of mange mites from my understanding. I need to research more to determine which one is indeed contagious to us as well. If anyone has this info, I'd love to know! | |

| Demodectic mange is transferred to puppies from their mother while still in the whelping box. All animals carry mites to some degree. Stress, immunosuppressed animals, sick animals can all show symptoms. Lyme dip is one treatment; pyrethrins another. Ivermectin is used off label for several kinds of mange mites. Many large cattle species have to be treated const. Sarcoptic mange is the one that can affect humans but usually is breed specific. Ivermectin-the active ingredient in Heartgard- is a treatment and is sometimes used as a topical but mostly given internally or by shot. It must be given in a larger dose 2 times with a 2 week rest between. I personally would not put my Yorkies thru those dips, at least not the dips I have seen. The pups' skin turned red and they cried I am interested in the post about putting the Ivermectin on as a creme. Would you post how you judged the dose and how you mixed it into a creme. I know it is used ON many cattle species in much larger doses, but don't know about dogs. THANX |

| Hi, about the Ivermectin used as cream. We bought the stuff that is used for worming horses. We had used it also as wormer for the big dogs. As far as using it as a cream, it is a cream right out of the tube. The end of the tube has a sort of clicker thingy that is used to measure the doses. I just clicked out enough to apply on her affected areas, and rubbed it around. As far as it being toxic, my vet assured me that it would not hurt her even if she licked it off. I knew this for sure as well, because I had a friend that also bred German Shepherds and one of her little boys fed a whole tube to a puppy and it had no affects whatsoever. Well, probably was well sormed, but did not get sick or have any side affects. I would definitely ask your vet before doing this, but IMHO it is safer then the toxic dips they put them through. But I would still check with your vet first. I did alot of research before deciding to spay Tessa after her bout with Demodec. I read that all dogs have the mite, in small numbers, just like people has some sort of mite too ( I know, disgusting) Dogs with their immune systems not right or under stress seem to have a reaction that causes the mites to multiply at an alarming rate. It may or may not be something that is passed on, but since Tessa's mom had also had it before we got her, I decided not to take the chance. Plus, if it is caused by stress as well, what is more stressing then going through a heat cycle and being bred, whelping, raising puppies? In fact Tessa's problem with Demodec came shortly after her first heat cycle. Plus the show ring can be very stressful as well. I don't regret having her spayed, but sometimes, even at her old age, I wonder how she would have done in the ring, she really is that nice. But oh well, we did what was best for her at the time. |
